Chapter 869: Ignored A Vital Point
It was clear that Hilda wished for all the good things that had taken place in her past life to remain the same.
However, she was striving to change those events which had brought her a lot of sadness and suffering.
She would not let any of the events that had harmed her previously repeat themselves.
In the same way, she wished for the pleasant events to remain constant.
It was without a doubt that she was being greedy by wanting to experience only the good things in life but sadly, she had failed to realize that not everything could go according to our expectations.
Turning a blind eye toward this sad truth about life, she wished to have the same good relationship she had with her little brother in her past life, this time as well.
When she was first introduced to Edgar, her little brother, in her past life, he had reacted similarly.
.....
Reluctance, confusion, and unwillingness were always apparent in his actions and expressions each time they met each other.
However, it did not take long for the siblings to connect and the two had become inseparable during the later years of their lives.
After her mother, Edgar had become the person she was closest to in their family.
Though he was the younger sibling, being the heir of the family gave him a lot of authority that she could never possess.
However, he never tried to look down on her but was always supportive of her.
He was the one who helped her when she faced any kind of issues in their immediate or extended families, always doing his best to keep her safe and happy.

She was sure that just like their past life, in this one too, they would grow closer as siblings.
Hence she did not think too much about his wary eyes and instead, smiled brightly when she met his gaze.
The young boy, on the other hand, wasn’t used to witnessing this sight so he simply averted his eyes from this elder sister that he had gained only recently.
The Baroness was oblivious to her son’s troubled thoughts and reignited the conversation from before.
Thanks to this, Edgar’s attention was soon diverted toward the questions she had asked him, concerning his stay at the academy and he was more than happy to reply.
Seated opposite them, Hilda sighed when she saw that there was still some time before Eddie could open up to her.
Therefore, she chose to be patient and wait for him to put down the wall that he seemed to have built around himself right now.
Sadly, Hilda seemed to have ignored a vital point though she had been quite observant about many others.
The fact that she had not met Edgar when he was much older than he was right now would play a part in how their relationship as siblings would turn out to be.
In her previous life, or so she thought of it, Hilda had reunited with her family when she was past the age of thirteen.
At that time, Edgar was no longer a little boy who still needed his mother to feed him but was around the age when he was capable of doing everything by himself.
Though he must have been around ten, he was taught to live without any help thanks to his long years at the academy.
This also instilled in him a lot of virtues and a few of them were discipline, patience, and compassion towards those who needed their care.
By this time, the entire family was aware of the truth about the Baroness’s first child and her supposed death.
In Hilda’s previous life, the maid who had secretly gone to the Lumex fief to seek her had come back with bad news.
This bad news had destroyed the Baroness’s hopes of meeting her firstborn and her health had taken a turn for the worse.
This was also when the Baron and the rest of the family had finally discovered the truth that had been concealed in the past.
However, looking at her weakening state, no one had the heart to blame her.
Edgar had seen his parents mourning their firstborn’s death all over again and this time, he too felt their grief.
After this news had been revealed, the relationship between his parents had strained and it was not until he was a little older did he realize why this was so.
Thankfully, when he was around ten, the daughter whom they believed to be dead had been found and brought back home.
Being the heir of the family and having worked alongside his father from a young age, Edgar was kind-hearted and was able to take others’ feelings into consideration.
However, he still had his apprehensions, after all, there were a lot of twists and turns in the life story of the sister he had gained.
She was said to have died at birth but later learned that his mother had lied about it.
She had been stolen by a maid after birth and many years later, another maid had seen someone similar in a different fief.
Once again, this sister who turned out to be alive had died in the plague.
Yet a few years later, she was standing before them in a pitiful state.
Therefore, it was difficult for Edgar to accept these numerous turns of events which, for him, were quite hard to believe.
However, after realizing that she truly was his elder sister, he was quick to put away his doubts and hesitations.
Later on, when he learned how his sister had suffered throughout her life, his heart ached for her and he vowed to never let her suffer again.
Thus he did everything in his capacity to make sure that she was happy as she had finally reached her true home.

If there was anything that Hilda wished for then he would do his best to make it happen for her.
This was the truth about the sibling relationship that the two shared in Hilda’s memories.
However, she conveniently forgot that this time, she had not met a ten-year-old Edgar who was already mature and knowledgeable about many things.
Instead, she had been introduced to a young child who still clung to his mother and yearned for her presence.
Due to Hilda’s acts of trying to change certain events of her life, the little boy was pulled into the loop of repercussions and had thus become the one who was starved of his mother’s attention.
To the six-year-old, this was a matter he could not turn a blind eye toward even if he was willing to tolerate it for the moment.
Many of the events that had taken place in her memories, now no longer existed thanks to the efforts she had put into changing the path she was supposed to tread during this life.
She had met her parents and reunited with her family much earlier than in her past life but these actions had consequences that she was not yet aware of.
One of the biggest shifts that had occurred due to her interference was the little brother who once was her source of support at home, now looked at her with wary eyes.
Whether his vigilance towards her would change in the future was still unknown.
However, Hilda seemed to be too confident that the pleasant relationship she once had with him in the past would persist in this one as well.
Unfortunately, she had never thought about the consequences of her actions when she began changing the course of her life to her advantage.
She simply assumed that everything would remain the same unless she acted otherwise.
Therefore, in her mind, as long as she was willing to make an effort to get closer to him in the future, Edgar would once again become the same loving brother who fulfilled her every desire no matter what it could be.
Thus she was least bothered about his vigilance as, sooner or later, it would surely fade away.
Hence, she tossed this issue to the back of her mind and focused on what her mother and brother were talking about.
