Chapter 538 Let's Not Talk About Romance
Alec nodded, looking calmer than Jenny. Carefree as always, he'd only take on the problem when it surfaced. He
believed that there would always be a solution to any problem.
He led her to the sofa, sat her down, and handed her the ointment. "You should at least finish what you started."
She didn't object to that and continued applying the ointment to his body. The living room fell into silence when they
stopped talking.
Soon, she was done and ready to leave. "Have a good rest. It's best if you could rest at home for a few days."
"Are you leaving?" he asked.
She nodded. "It's late. I need to get home." She knew Graham didn't like that she was in touch with Alec, and she
worried she might fuel Graham's dislike of Alec if she got home late.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"Jenny," Alec called out, his deep gaze fixated on her face. "The truth is, you still care about me. Don't you?" As
expected, she was silent. He added, "I'm not strong enough yet. Can you wait for me?"
"Wait for you?" She was puzzled by his words.
"Wait for me until I have built my strength. Right now, I'm not qualified to be with you." He flashed a bitter smile at
her. As much as he'd love to date Jenny right now, he understood that it was a difficult ask. Therefore, he hoped
that she could give him some time.
She chuckled at his remark, looking a little disheartened. "Alec, you've known me long enough. Is that what you
think of me?"
She wasn't the type of woman who'd care about his qualifications.
"I know you wouldn't care about that. But I don't want you to be mistreated, and I don't want the others to gossip."
He would hate to see others gossip about Jenny behind her back because of him, and he'd be more upset if he
could not protect her.
His sincerity earned her trust. Still...
A long silence later, she replied, "I don't care about your family background. If I love someone, I will keep loving him
regardless of status."
"Do you love me, then?" He took the chance to ask, but she rolled her eyes at him while dodging the question.
’That's not in my consideration right now because I'm yet to establish myself in Bardoff City. Everything's in flux
now, and I have lots of work waiting for me."
"I understand." He knew where she was coming from, for he felt the same.
"Let's not talk about romance now and focus on reaching success. When we have established ourselves here, we
can bring up that discussion. What do you think?" she asked for his opinion. She'd be fooling herself if she claimed
she didn't love Alec, but she was rather scared of dating him again after their short-lived relationship. Moreover,
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmshe believed getting into a relationship would slow down her career growth. Before she built her career here, she
would rather not think about romance.
Alec was slightly disappointed that she avoided answering his question, but he wasn't too upset because he
understood her intentions. When they were both successful, she'd be willing to get into a relationship with him.
"Sure," Alec agreed with her decision. He wouldn't easily give up as long as there was a chance. She smiled,
satisfied at their agreement to pursue their goals and meet at the peak of their success.
"So.J'll go home now?" She pointed at the door as she prepared to leave. He didn't want her to leave, but he didn't
stop her after she had made her intentions clear.
"If Jolene Walter pulls tricks on you again, let me know, and I will teach her a lesson for you," he added.
She shook her head at him. "You'd better not show up in front of her for now. She's vindictive. Since she can't lay a
finger on me, she'll only vent her anger on you. She'll give you trouble for the time being."
After a few setbacks, Jolene had gotten a better idea of who she should hire to deal with Alec. As the daughter of
the Walter family, she could easily pay some men to do so. Alec was in danger, as Jolene might hire someone to
assault him at any time.
