Chapter 973 What Am I Lacking?
"What am I lacking compared to her?" Alexandra asked, feeling very much aggrieved.
Although Jenny was more beautiful than her and came from a much better family,
Alexandra believed that Christopher wasn't someone who valued those things.
Christopher felt helpless at how persistent she was. "You shouldn't compare yourself to
her. You’re different from each other. Our breakup has nothing to do with her. I won't end
up with her either."
"You won't end up with her, or you know you won't stand a chance with her?" Alexandra
sneered.
Compared to Jenny's suitors, Christopher was from a family that was substandard at best,
so how could he be qualified? Alexandra was well aware of that, not to mention
Christopher himself.
"Going around in circles on this matter is pointless," Christopher declared. At this point,
he'd already put down his cutlery and leaned back in his chair, expressionless.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHe'd only put up with Alexandra for so long because he knew he was in the wrong. During
the time they were together, Alexandra treated him well, and he could feel her sincerity.
That was why he was so patient with her.
"Yes, it's meaningless." Alexandra smiled bitterly.
"Christopher, since you will inevitably get married in the future, why can't it be me? I'll be
a good wife and won't disappoint you." Even if Christopher didn't like her, she could
accept it.
Christopher looked at her and said, "I did consider that option before. But then I started
wondering what my life would be like for the next few decades. I can't possibly spend the
rest of my life with someone I don't like. What would be the point of my life if I did that?"
he asked Alexandra, but he was also questioning himself.
He didn't want to face someone he didn't like every day when he came home, and he
didn't want to stay at the company because the people in his family didn't like him doing
otherwise.
"So, what now? Will you go find the person you like? Are you going to pursue Jenny?"
Alexandra mentioned Jenny again because, in her heart, the reason Christopher broke up
with her was because of Jenny.
Before they met Jenny, they were doing well. But after running into Jenny twice,
Christopher chose to break up with her. Alexandra refused to believe that their breakup
had nothing to do with that woman.
Christopher shook his head and looked out the window." I used to like her, but I won't just
like one person for the rest of my life. I'll meet someone else that I like in the future."
What he had to do was wait for the next person he liked to appear.
"I will meet someone, and so will you." He withdrew his gaze and looked at Alexandra.
Alexandra pursed her lips and smiled bitterly. "Maybe."
Though she said that, she knew how difficult it was to meet someone she liked. She would
likely never meet someone like that again in her lifetime.
"What if you never come across someone you like? Will you reconsider me then?" She

him.
Christopher knew what she meant and shook his head without hesitation. "I'd rather be
alone than be with the wrong person."
Alexandra was chilled to her core at his reply and couldn't even force a smile anymore.
"Finish your meal and go home. The collaboration between the Spades and the Yorks will
continue and won't be affected. Thank you for everything." In fact, he'd wanted to break
things off with Alexandra a long time ago. He just didn't have the chance to do so.
Now that Harvey had been laid to rest, he couldn't continue delaying Alexandra any
longer. So, he chose that day to clarify and end things with her.
"Okay." Alexandra nodded, then lowered her head and ate her food. However, she couldn't
taste anything.
Tears streamed down her face, dripping onto her pasta. She seemed unaware of it and just
continued eating.
Seeing her like that, Christopher felt a little sorry for her. He opened his mouth but quickly
closed it again, choosing to remain silent.
It was better to suffer in the short term rather than prolong the torture. Crying it all out
was better than bottling it all inside.
