“Whether he likes me or not isn’t the point, the point is that I don’t wanna marry him!”

“Is it because… you’ve got someone else on your mind?” Elio asked

Clara didn’t respond, which was as good as admitting it.

Elio chuckled, “A high school romance?”

Clara lowered her head, her eyes welling up, “I don’t deserve him. I’m even worse off now

than I was before, at least back then I was innocent! I don’t want to marry

him with a kid!”

“You’re always like this, always considering others.”

“Elio, I can’t be that selfish! I can’t deceive my own conscience.” Clara forced a bitter

smile, “I’m a burden now, and it’d be even worse if I brought along Alex. You might think

I’m a good person now, even considering me as a potential wife. But over time, we might

argue and fight for various reasons, and in the end, we might not even be friends

anymore! I don’t want that.”

Before Clara could respond, another voice cut them off.

“Let go of her hand!”

Clara whipped around, with her face ghostly pale from fright.

“Emmett! What on earth are you doing here?”

Wasn’t he supposed to be back home?

How did he know she was here?

And Alex!

Alex was still inside!

“Did I interrupt something?” asked Emmett.

It was impossible to tell what was going on in his mind.

All she knew was that he certainly wasn’t pleased.

Elio finally caught on, giving Clara a glance. “You know Emmett?”

“She’s my wife.”

“Wife?!” Elio was stunned and completely lost for words.
