Bernard frowned, puzzled.
"Why are you heading to the lower ground floor?" From what he knew, the morgue was on the lower ground floor.
"To take a look," Hera stated plainly.
"What's there to look at? Don't go." Bernard gripped her hand, refusing to let her leave.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtHera looked at him, surprised. A thought crossed her mind, and she narrowed her eyes at him as if she had discovered a huge secret.
"Are you scared?" she asked.
Bernard let out a bark of cold laughter. "It's full of corpses. Why would I be scared of them?" He had his fair share of seeing corpses when he was fighting at the frontlines back then.
A sinister smile crept onto Hera's face. "If that's so, why won't you letgo there?" "That place is full of bacteria." Bernard scrunched his nose in disdain. "It's dirty in there." Hera clucked her tongue inwardly. Bernard truly was a clean freak.
Pulling her hand out of his grasp, she told him, "Then wait forhere. I'll be back in a jiffy." "No way. I won't let you go there alone." Hera was speechless now. What was there to be worried about? Bernard was becoming so protective of her that he was going to extrlengths.
"Let's go, then," Hera told him.
Seeing how his efforts to stop her failed, Bernard couldn't help but ask, "Why do you have to go there?" "I'm looking for somebody," Hera replied.
"Aren't all the people in the morgue dead?" "That's not necessarily the case." Bernard stopped in his tracks.
"What is it?" Hera turned around to face him with an expression that said, "Didn't you say you aren't afraid?" When they locked gazes, Bernard cleared his throat awkwardly. "Hold on." He then went to look for a nurse to get two surgical masks and two pairs of gloves. He was about to ask the nurse for scrubs or antibacterial clothes, but Hera quickly stopped him it wasn't like they were going to spend the night in the morgue. Content belongs to en.kikistories"Good day," Hera greeted as she walked over to him and rapped the table to wake the man up.
The middle-aged man's eyes snapped open, and when he realized that the man and woman standing before him weren't medical staff, he told them, "Leave. This isn't a place living and breathing humans would want to visit." Content belongs to en.kikistories"Dr. Lawson askedto look for the body that was sent here not long ago. It belongs to Roman Killian," Hera explained. "Doctor what?" the man asked in his booming voice as he turned sideways, seemingly unable to hear Hera clearly just now. He was probably deaf in one ear.

"Oh, okay." The man put on his glasses and flipped through a book on the table. "Who are you looking for?" For the umpteenth tthat day, Hera was at a loss for words. She felt like poking a couple of needles into the man to help him with his deafness.
Just then, a shrill voice pierced through the air. It had cfrom inside the morgue. Then cthe thump of something falling to the ground.
The noise was so loud that even the middle-aged man heard it.
"What the heck! How dare you make a ruckus here on my turf!" he bellowed, reaching for the baseball bat behind his chair. After that, he got up from his seat and stomped into the morgue to see what was going on, blurting expletives as he did so. That man truly had guts. Even so, that baseball wouldn't work if it was a ghost who made the noise in the morgue.
Hera seized the chance to follow the man into the morgue. The temperature was very low in the morgue. Their footsteps echoed in the long corridor.
Out of the blue, the frantic sound of raps on a door could be heard. Bernard, who had been walking behind Hera, quickly gripped her hand.
Hera halted and turned to look at him. "Afraid now, aren't you?" "I'm not!" he denied instantly.
There was nothing but corpses here. What was there to be afraid of? It wasn't like he hadn't seen a corpse before.
