Jake could be a bit more aggressive without the poison to bother him. He charged toward the monster and then saw some vines get in his way. Still, while using Cyclone Strike and the returning motion to hit them with his shield as well, Jake could cut down a few of them. Pieces of the vine began to fall around and he repelled most of them and avoided damage that could decrease his strength.
The boss used Poison Breath again, but the poison was no longer reaching Jake even at close range. He almost could see the annoyance on the face of the creature… while he sacrificed some attack power to be able to seal one of the enemy's skills, it was clear who had the upper hand now.
The monster fired a barrage of Putrid Fruits to hit Jake, but he blocked them with his shield. Still, he felt like he was blocking concrete blocks since his bones were cracking. That was probably the effect of the monster's high intelligence…
In the end, Jake put his feet on the ground and focused on defense. The monster liked that and continued to use its barrage of attacks. With every strike, Jake felt his body shaking and being pushed backward by the sheer power of that spell… but he didn't just wait for the enemy to do what the creature wanted. He prepared his own attack as well.
When Jake felt that his right hand was about to explode, he threw his sword at the enemy. He used Concentrated Strike for a while alongside Throw, and this time, the enemy's projectiles didn't stop his attack.
The sword hit and pieced the face of the boss, but it didn't pierce that much. Fortunately, the damage had been enough to paralyze the creature for a short while. Jake used that chance to charge and then kick the hilt of the sword to cause some extra damage while making the enemy flinch.

The enemy had lost one-third of its total health, so Jake wasn't certain if it was time to go all out. Still, he decided to take his chances. He made the flame spheres stop in front of him and fired them all toward the enemy. The boss began to train like its body was being shaken to the core, and the dark flames began to consume its leaves, trunk, and roots, so perhaps that wasn't much surprising.
In the meantime, Jake used his sword to pierce the face of the monster even deeper while he was using Explosive touch. He soon ran out of mana, but he grabbed a few and began to drink since he could see the enemy losing hundreds of points of health every second. When the creature's health reached the dangerous levels, the color of the Trent began to change, and Jake had a feeling that it wasn't a good sign…
Jake pulled his sword and tried to retreat, but the monster suddenly exploded… that kind of ability wasn't on the skill list, but Jake couldn't see the spells of the beast, so perhaps…
All of a sudden, the entire last room of the dungeon was covered in dark poisonous fogs. Jake hasn't pushed away that far, but he felt the effects of the poison and curse take over his whole body in an instant. He clicked his tongue in annoyance when he felt himself losing control over his own body.
"Fucking monster… it could even retort to that kind of attack," Jake thought and then summoned his flames again.
Jake once again managed to make the poison gas move away from him, but he couldn't do anything against the poison inside his body. To make matters worse, it didn't seem like that had been a suicide attack. Jake could see pieces of the monster's body here and there, but…
Jake didn't have time for that… he mustered all the strength he had to grab some health potions and drink them. If it weren't for his dark flames, the poison would have already killed him, but then he frowned when the effects of the potions had been halved… that fucking poison even had that kind of effect.
"Annoying beast…" Jake said and then fired some of the dark flames to the spot the monster was supposed to be.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmIn the end, Jake's guess was correct… the core of the monster was still there. A smaller version of the creature began to burn across the room. It didn't take long for Jake to see some notifications. The monster used an attack that would fill the entire room with high amounts of concentrated poison, but that also left its body a lot weaker than usual.

Eventually, Jake was teleported back to his cold base, and he let his body fall to the ground when he saw that the damage had stopped. He still was feeling like crap because of the numbing effects of the curse, but he could endure that much.

The effect and the weapon weren't that bad, but Jake wished that he had obtained a sword instead of a crossbow. Thanks to that, he felt unmotivated to get up…
