"Sorry, sorry," Lana said. "Next time, we will try to play the role of the damsels in distress."
Louise forced a smile, and while she appreciated the feeling, they weren't dumb or weak enough to let such obvious attacks hit them. Nevertheless, Jake didn't have to worry about that kind of thing since he could see the boss finally moving from its spot. Things were about to get really difficult since Jake knew that he couldn't stop the boss with his strength alone…
Instead of charging, the boss made several ice arrows appear around itself. The control of that creature over magic was so impressive that it could make the projectiles appear so fast and without firing them.
"That is pretty cool," Jake said.
Something even cooler happened afterward. The boss fired the arrows like a machine gun toward Jake, and while he blocked them with his shield, the fast sequence of attacks caused so much impact that Jake's left arm began to throb every time he breathed… Lana quickly healed him, but the pain wasn't going away that fast. It was almost like he had broken a bone, but healing spells couldn't solve such a thing so fast.
As usual, after a torrent of magic attacks from the enemies, Louise attacked by firing a massive Fireball after stealing some of the monster's mana, but once again, the boss used an Ice Wall. However, much to everyone's surprise, Louise's projectile flew upward to dodge the obstacle and then flew downward at maximum speed.
The boss didn't react on time to dodge that, but it used its paws to protect its head. The explosion raised some smoke, and thanks to that, Jake couldn't attack. Not like he would be able to since he was too surprised… spells could be controlled like that, or was just another of Louise's abilities? Nevertheless, the boss got quite pissed after that.

The boss hadn't lost only twenty percent of their health. Still, Jake could tell that the creature was about to become enraged, so he quickly returned to his allies aside and prepared to fight. Just as he had imagined, the monster finally dashed toward the group with its fearsome speed. The chances of Jake blocking that completely were close to none, so he just swung his katana and shield to cause as much damage as possible.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmJake used Shield Smash and Bash. Thanks to that, when the monster's hit him with a head-butt, Jake also had the chance to attack the creature's face and make it lose five hundred points of health. Still, in exchange, Jake was sent flying backward and only stopped when he hit the walls above the room entrance. Jake lost half of his health in a single attack. However, before he could fall to the ground, Lana threw a potion at him and made him recover fifty points of health instantly.
"Ouch… why did you aim for my head?" Jake asked when he landed on the ground, feeling pain all over.
"You got hit by that attack, and your back collided against the crystal wall, and you are complaining about that?" Lana frowned.
There was no time for chit-chat, even though Jake was the one who started it. Despite that, he noticed that the boss had stopped since Jake's attack caused critical damage. That is what you get from using your head as a literal weapon. Jake decided to use that chance and rush toward the enemy, but the boss summoned several Ice Arrows and fired, forcing Jake to stop the charge. Once again, Louise fired another concentrated Fireball, but the boss fired an Ice Spear to destroy the projectile. A lot of steam spread across the area since the projectiles nullified each other, and Jake didn't lose that chance.
Jake began to run around the monster since the creature couldn't see him, but due to the size, Jake could tell where the monster was. When the monster finally recovered from the hits on its head, Jake charged and then swung his katana toward the monster's face. The monster had been fast enough to stop him with its charge when he finally showed up, though. However, Jake's Bash, Mana Blade, and Shield Smash made the monster grunt in pain.
Despite that, the monster hit Jake with its other paw and made him fly again. Jake truly hated being treated like a Volleyball. Still, he couldn't do anything aside from enduring the pain since the difference in power was just that big.
Congratulations! The skill Pain Resistance has leveled up.
This time, though, Jake landed on the ground before he could hit the crystal walls, so he lost only thirty percent of his health.
"Argh… I was too slow, again," Lana said, visibly annoyed for being unable to use Barrier before the strike.
As if she was trying to make up for it, Lana used another potion to recover Jake's health, and thanks to that, some of the pain disappeared, and then he approached the monster at his top speed. The mist had dissipated, but Jake didn't feel like he had lost his chances. Since Lana was willing to use her potions on him, it means Jake could afford to be a bit more offensive against the monster.
The boss dashed toward Jake, and he only had the time to hide behind his shield, and then he was thrown in the air again. However, Jake moved his shield and then swung his weapon and fired Mana Blade at the monster's left eye. The creature didn't have the chance to react since that had been too fast and surprising. So, Jake's attack really landed and destroyed the monster's eyeball. Once again, the monster began to grunt in extreme pain, but Jake ignored it since he was in pain as well.
