Chapter 193 Resident Mage Hudd
Arthur soon reached the Guard Captain's office building where there were a lot of guards standing outside.
This was different than the usual two guards that stood at the door and a few more that patrolled.
'This is like six guard squads,' Arthur noted that all of them were fully equipped and ready to mobilize. 'They even have the horses ready on the side.'
The guards looked at Arthur but did not talk to him nor did they move from their positions. It was clear that they had been given an order to stand and wait. As such, Arthur easily gained entry into the building where the staff was bustling around.
"What's happening?" Arthur questioned of the clerks that he recognized.
"Ah! It's you!" The clerk stopped in his tracks. "Quickly go meet up with the captain, he'll have to leave soon." He said before returning to his work.
All the staff seemed to be frantically trying to finish something and Arthur had a bad feeling about it.
'Looks like I'll have to take a look myself.' Arthur quickly walked into the office of the captain where the man stood with three other people.
Two of them were familiar to Arthur, being the Adventurer guild master Caleb and the Alchemist Lugan. The third person though was an old woman with a deeply wrinkled face. She seemed to be in her nineties and walked using the help of a staff.
'He's still in his armor and covered with blood.' Arthur gazed at the Guard captain.
The man didn't seem to be completely fine either and had several burn marks on his armor along with scratches and small dents.
"Arzhur," Frederic spotted the man. "Come, our time is short."
"What's going on? I heard you're leaving?" Arthur questioned.
"Indeed… Things turned out to be more severe than I thought." The guard captain answered a frown appearing on his face.
"I thought you couldn't leave the town to keep it safe?" Arthur asked feeling confused.
"That was true until a few hours ago. But now that the bandits are gone, the town's safety is assured for a while at least." Fredric replied. "And the reason I'm leaving is also for the town's safety. I need to report something serious." He added.
"The two men you captured… are they the cultists?" Arthur inquired.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt"Indeed." Fredric nodded his head. "In the battle against Dozla, they did assist him but I managed to take them all down. Dozla died first, but these cultists still managed to save themselves." He explained.
"Did any of them run?" Arthur thought of something.
"One of them did," Fredric said, his face darkening.
"And you couldn't stop him? You should be faster than them though." Arthur doubted.
"Not as fast as teleportation," Fredric revealed.
Hearing that Arthur's eyes went wide. He was sure that none of the Cultists could teleportation magic which only meant one thing.
"They had a Teleportation scroll," Arthur muttered.
"You're correct," Lugan confirmed. "And not just any scroll."
"What do you mean?" Arthur inquired.
"Mage Hudd, would you please show it?" Guard Captain Frederic asked respectfully.
Hearing that Arthur finally realized who the woman was.
Looking at her Arthur used his skill to see more information.

Looking at the information about the old woman, Arthur was a bit surprised.
'She's really focused on her non-physical stats for the most part. She's a glass cannon otherwise.' Arthur thought. 'She also seems to be close to death… and she's also sick.'
He realized why the old woman needed to be protected at all times.
On her own, she could probably unleash devastating spells, but she The old woman coughed a couple of times and took a deep breath before speaking.
had little defense to speak of. But despite that, she was also the one maintaining the barrier that protected the town from beasts.
~Cough~ Cough~
The old woman coughed a couple of times and took a deep breath before speaking.
"Tell me, child. Do you know how teleportation scrolls work?" Resident Mage Hudd asked.
"I won't say I'm an expert, but I know that the scroll has location coordinates written within it that are used with a teleportation spell contained within the scroll. The mana stored within it fuels the spell and triggers the teleportation." Arthur gave a summarized plantation of what he had known.
"Mmhmm, correct. Then tell me do you know about the difference in the teleportation scrolls?" She asked next.
"As far as I know, there are two ways the teleportation scrolls can vary: Distance and number of targets." Arthur replied. "The more the range of the scroll, the more mana it would need. And for more people to be transported, a stronger teleportation spell would also be needed." He explained.
"Good. Since you know this much already, it'll be easier to say this." Mage Hudd said before coughing. "Fredric saw the cultists use a Thousand-kilometer multi-teleportation scroll." She revealed.
As soon as Arthur heard that he gasped.
"Those… aren't those prohibited within the kingdom? And even making those needs a Strong Mage above level 250." Arthur said in surprise.
"Exactly. If the cultists have access to something like this, it is highly likely that they are hiding outside the limits of the kingdom and possibly have strong mages among their ranks." Mage Hudd confirmed. "Something like this is close to a kingdom-wide emergency."
Arthur became silent after hearing that, feeling that the quest he had done might just have triggered something unthinkable.
'The Cultists should have come into play far later… there's no way they should have level 250 mages even now since Iltan hasn't awakened.' Arthur furrowed his brow.
"As such, you can understand why I need to leave. I am heading to the City to hand over the two cultists as well as report to the Nobles in person."
