Chapter 210 Cautious Misdirection
While Rain did not think that a normal player would be able to obtain an armor like what the passerby was playing, he didn't forget that 'Grey Watcher' was not normal at all.
With the guides and posts that he made, it was clear that he had explored quite a bit. This included areas that were simply a death sentence for all players. Even Rain had no confidence in being able to do what Grey Watcher had done.
As such he reckoned that there was probably some secret to him.
Thus a player like Grey Watcher having great equipment would totally make sense.
"It's not him?" Rain was surprised when the Inspect Skill failed in front of him. 'I need to check again, Inspect!' he used the skill once more.
>Inspect has failed!<
>Warning: The target is stronger than the limits of the skill! Be warned, certain characters will discover the usage of the skill and take offense to it!<
And once the warning popped up, Rain couldn't help but believe that he had been mistaken.
"Hm?" But then he felt a sharp gaze directed towards him.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtThe gaze had come from none other than the person in the red scaled armor that he had just used Inspect from.
"Dammit, don't tell me he's gonna become offended…" Rain cursed under his breath.
This wasn't the first time he had used the Inspect Skill on a higher leveled character and also wasn't the first time that he had gotten the warning.
In fact, it was one of the warnings that most players would get soon at the start as they would go crazy with using Inspect on everything including the tough NPCs.
Usually something like this was fine, as the chances that a NPC would take an offense to the Inspect skill was very low. At the very least, the first used would cause no issue.
Even the Second use had little to no chance of triggering them.
'Shit, don't tell me I hit the lowest possible chance for triggering them?' Rain wondered as the gaze of the armored man lingered on him.
"Humph." But a couple seconds later, the armored man looked away with a harrumph as if he took Rain as someone too lowly.
Rain could see the hint of disdain in that armored man's eyes and tone, making him sure that he found him weak.
"Phew~ that was close…" Rain let out a breath after the armored man left.
He didn't mind that the other person had looked down at him. He was a player through and through and was too used to NPCs acting like this.
If the same person was a player though, he would take it quite differently. Rain knew better than most that there was no use butting heads with a NPC just because they insulted you.
Hence, he could only consider himself lucky that he had gotten out of this without getting injured or worse dying.
But that brought Rain back to his original task.
'Since that's not Grey Watcher, where is he?' Rain wondered if the man would be late. 'No… this is still early. I've been waiting here earlier than the decided time. He might just come at the exact time.' He reckoned.
Since he was the one that wanted to know the most, he had come here to the meeting place ahead of time. This was normal and both parties would do this.
Rain reckoned a 'intel hunter' like Grey Watcher would be the same. At the very least, its how others like him had been.
'Intel hunter' was a common thing that a lot of games had in common and not just Morpheus Online. One of the top guilds from the future, the Lore Gluttons were also formed from a group of intel hunters in a similar way.
Of course, Rain had no idea that his initial guess had been right.
Arthur stood a hundred meters away from Rain and smiled under his helmet.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm'That worked better than I thought.' Arthur thought. 'Guess him being a professional player also means that he won't have as many doubts on the game's systems. His logical train of thought wouldn't allow him to think that a player had already exceeded level 20.'
It was working in Arthur's favor and was something he had done to misdirect Rain. That way, even if he ever saw Arthur he wouldn't think that it was Grey Watcher.
Plus he also knew that the knowledge about Grey Watcher would be leaked eventually. Stuff like this was hard to keep secret, and as such Arthur needed contingencies.
This was his first trick, and should at least keep Rain and the team behind him under an illusion.
'The next part should make it assured.' Arthur hoped and looked around to make sure he was in an isolated spot.
He was in another alley near Rain and there was basically no one here due to it being the narrow alley between 2 buildings. Only a small sewer passed by here, making the place rather stinky.
People avoided it and would rather take another path next to it than use this alley and as such provided Arthur with the perfect place to use the veil.
"Activate Veil of Thousand skins!" Arthur said in a firm voice.
<nulli>~SHUA~
In the next second, the veil extended and clung to his face. It started to spread and covered his head, then his shoulders and arms and finally his entire body.
The veil covering his body reflected no light and as such it was very hard to see Arthur in the narrow alley. Though if someone peeked in, they would run away in terror as Arthur looked like a faceless monster whose skin twisted all over.
It could easily give nightmares to children and adults alike.
Plus with how monsters and other creatures were a reality in the game world, even the NPCs would think that a monster had somehow sneaked into the town.
The Veil of Thousand Skin's disguise skill might be very good, but it also looked disgusting and unsettling at the same time for many.
