Chapter 213 Coming Up With A Contract
As far as Rain's understanding about Morpheus Online went, the Inspection skill would either work or fail.
There was no in between.
But using it on Grey Watcher had somehow worked, despite the fact that it had failed earlier. Of course, he still couldn't see any important information, but it was still enough for him to be shocked.
'I knew when the skill failed that his level was high, but how can he change the thing? Is there an option to do that?' Rain first wondered if this was a default game feature.
Which this was not.
Arthur was able to do this due to the fact that he was using his disguise skill. The veil of Thousand Skins allowed one to change how information was displayed to the others.
Of course, this was restricted by the level and was fixed for the day once the skill was used. But one could still allow the skill to show a part of the information of they wished to do so.
Normally, if players wanted to share their status or more, they could just do so on their own. There was a share function that could be used to send the information to the others.
Additionally, one could set their stats information to be visible to the party members if they choose to do so. This was was also adjustable, so one could set just what information they wanted to be revealed.
For temporary parties or players who had just met, it made sense to keep their details hidden. But they still needed to display a part of the stats in order to have a proper cooperation between the party.
As such, one could set exactly which stats they wanted others to see.
Most usually set this to the three stats HP, MP and Stamina as they were the most concerning for the other party members during a quest or a mission. Then there was the experience, the hunger bar and the status effects which could also be turned on.
These didn't cause many issues either and would also be turned on when one was in a party. But they could always choose to turn them of too.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtMany players didn't know about it and as such forgot to ever change it. Some had suffered due to getting their information leaked like this, but Arthur was a veteran.
He had changed all the default settings when he had logged into his avatar and was prepared for most of the things. Only needing to modify things when there were significant changes or issues.
Rain had no idea whether his curiosity would be satisfied or not, but he knew for sure that Arthur had successfully managed to hook him. Now even if wanted to reject him, there was no way as a gamer he would be able to resist.
Grey Watcher knew something Rain didn't know about.
Heck, he seemed to be higher leveled than all others as the Inspect skill had failed before too.
'Considering that the skill failed originally, he is certainly 10 levels above me. Which would place him at at least level 21. Then there is the fact that he influenced the status just enough to show me his name but keep the others hidden.
This might just be an item he discovered first hand, or maybe even a skill. Whatever it is, I need to be close to him to figure out what it is.' Rain thought.
He knew for sure that the ability to hide one's status could be invaluable in the game and could help a lot against others players.
With his experience, it wasn't hard to figure out that this would affect a lot of things in the future if one managed to get a skill like this.
"I guess I can trust that you are indeed Grey Watcher." Rain stated knowing that he couldn't keep silent for any longer.
"Indeed." Arthur nodded. "Since you trust me now, I can say that while I can agree to your offer, it won't be an exclusive one." He finally said.
"I assure you that an exclusive contract would be the best. Our Agate E-sports team is one of the best and can provide you all that you would need.
In case someone can offer you better terms, just inform us and we'll either match them or exceed them." Rain stated openly.
Hearing this, Arthur was inwardly surprised but showed no expression on his face. Of course, his head gear helped to and no chance could be felt by Rain at least.
This allowed Arthur to keep his advantage and he continued to think of the best option from this.
"Hmm… I cannot sign an all encompassing exclusive contract with you, but I can sigh limited scope exclusive contracts." Arthur said after thinking for a minute.
"What would that entail exactly?" Rain did not dare to take the words at their face value.
He wished to know exactly what Grey Watcher wanted, as the Agate E-sports Team would not like to be a losing party in a deal like this. At the very least, they did not want to be cheated.
"Take it like this." Arthur replied. "I find some promising intel or confirmed information, I'll choose to offer it to you. If I do sell it to you, you and your team will have exclusive access to that information until it is eventually discovered by others.
For example, I discover a quest and it is something that can be taken on by others too, I'll talk to your team about selling information on how to get it.
Or another better example would be the locations of certain kinds of dungeons or bosses. I think this would be a lot more valuable for you all." Arthur explained in detail.
Hearing that, Rain did not reply right away.
"I'll need to discuss this with my colleagues, can you please wait a bit?" Rain questioned.
"Sure." Arthur knew this was normal.
"Just a minute then." Rain sent the recording of the conversation to his team on the outside and waited for them to respond.
They had already known that Rain would be meeting up with Grey Watcher in the game and as such had been waiting for it. Then there was the benefit that the time in the game was three times faster than the real world.
As such, Arthur and Rain didn't have to wait long. Two minutes later, they received a response.
Rain read it carefully and ensured that it was fine before finally relaying it to Arthur.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"We do need to discuss this in further detail, but from the initial way you said it, the Agate E-sports team will be willing to take you up on that offer." Rain revealed.
"That is good." Arthur was pleased that he had gotten a positive response. 'And here I thought I would have to convince them a lot more. Guess it helps that the entire team is stumbling with the new game and its endless mysteries.' He thought to himself.
"From what I could tell, you wish to have individual contracts for each bit of intel you offer us?" Rain inquired.
"Indeed. It is similar to what your team and others do for smaller sets of information they buy from the intel hunters." Arthur agreed.
"Then it is mostly standard." Rain felt a bit relieved.
"For the most part." Arthur nodded. "But I'll be asking for a few paid favors from you and your team too." He added.
"Such as?" Rain raised his eyes.
He noted the wording for Arthur and realized that the man was willing to do it for a fee rather than a free favor which most would "You must know in my field of work, obtaining information isn't always straightforward or easy. There are dangerous areas and ask usually.
"You must know in my field of work, obtaining information isn't always straightforward or easy. There are dangerous areas and situations which need the support of many or just financial support in general.
For situations like these, I'd like the support of the Agate E-sports team and their associates." Arthur answered. "Of course, you would not be losing out in this and would also get first call on the intel I would be obtaining. At the same time, you can offer to make it an exclusive for you and your team." He added.
"Hmm… I guess that can be worked out. Though we'll have to go on a case by case basis." Rain replied.
"That is excepted." Arthur was fine with that.
<nulli>~huu~
Rain took a deep breath, feeling relieved that his had worked out. While he had been intimidated at first, which was unusual for him, he also knew when to retreat and take a loss.
This might be advantageous to him right now, be he knew that he and his team would be greatly benefiting from this in some time.
After all, the information that Grey Watcher had provided so far had been all but confirmed to be good and hundreds of players had benefited from him, if not thousands.
The Agate E-sports team had estimated it to be even higher, but were keeping that a bit restricted.
