Chapter 254 Reaching The City
~KI~
Brambles appeared in a flash of light and felt excited.
"You know the drill, carry the rope over to that side." Arthur instructed.
"Kirik!" Brambles replied and took hold of the rope before opening his wings.
~buzz~
His wings fluttered at a great speed, before he floated up in the air. In the next second, he moved towards the cliff and quickly crossed over.
"Good! Now just hold on tight." Arthur said as he tried the rope on this end to a boulder.
Once that was done, he held onto the rope and started to cross it. Unlike last time, he didn't have as much weight to carry due to his new cape and he also had better stats than before. As such, he managed to cross the cliff in just a minute.
"Perfect," Arthur said as he stood up. "You did good, brambles." He praised before taking the rope from him.
He then tied it to a boulder on this side as well, so that he would have a path ready when he returned.
"Now let's head to the city. We'll probably have to fight a few things on the way too." Arthur stated.
"KI!" Brambles replied saying that he was ready to face them all.
The path from the Ballard Cliffs to the city was rather weathered due to not having been used for a while. It had been abandoned many years ago and was now frequented by the local beasts. The plants had also taken over and weeds grew everywhere on the road.
The trees that used to line the sides of the road had also grown haphazardly, with some old ones having collapsed on the road. It was clear that even if one brought a horse or another transport method, they wouldn't exactly be able to use this path.
Though for Arthur and Brambles it was a non issue.
"Push it aside," Arthur asked Brambles.
~THUD~
~CRASH~
Brambles barely used his strength and lifted the dead tree before throwing it to the side.
~ROAR~

~CLANG~

A beast jumped out from where Brambles had thrown the tree and pounced on the beetle. Of course, its attack did nothing and couldn't even scratch the beetle's carapace.

"Oh, they have extended their territory huh." Arthur had known about the Red Mark Cougars and their tendency to sneak attack but didn't know they lived this far too. "Doesn't matter, end it Brambles."
"KI!!" Brambles was already angry having been ambushed earlier.
As such, he quickly tilted his head and slapped the Red Mark Courage with his horn.
~thud~
[-22% HP]
The heavy horn of Brambles struck the side of the Cougar, sending it flying into the tree that had been thrown earlier.
"KRIIIIII!" Brambles then charged with his horn and impaled the Red Mark Cougar in one go.
The beast's body could not resist, and the beetle skewered him straight through the tree trunk.

Just a single tick from the bleed damage was enough to drain the life of the Red Mark Cougar, finishing it off.
>Dragon Horn Beetle has killed a Red Mark Cougar!<
>Dragon Horn Beetle has obtained 4% Experience!<
"Let's get going. We got a lot more to kill." Arthur said and took the lead.
Since it was just the two of them traveling through this part, they attracted more Red Mark Cougars. And unlike earlier, there were three or more of them attacking at the same time. But these cougars were easy to deal with for both Arthur and Brambles.
A few attacks from them were more than enough to end their lives, netting them more experience.
The two traveled for about two hours, during which they killed around thirty Red Mark Cougars before they finally saw the settlement in the distance.
"There it is," Arthur glanced at the large settlement that was built around a hill.
It was hard to miss since a castle was built on the top of the hill. It acted as a beacon to all, and made it easier for people to find it.
"Samson city… Ruled by Count Samson and his family." Arthur recalled.
The Samson family wasn't that important in the game beyond being one of the first nobles that one would encounter if they started from Kestrel Village along with a few other nearby villages. After all, this was the main city that connected multiple towns.
Eight roads could be seen connecting the city, and all of them went in different directions.
The path that Arthur was taking joined one of these paths, that came from the north. And once he was on the main road, he soon saw others.
Unlike Roran town, there was a lot more foot traffic and there were actually travelers on the road. There were tens of carriages entering and exiting the city, along with merchants, soldiers and more.
"Now it feels like a proper VRMMORPG City!" Arthur felt pleased by the increased activity.
It felt a lot more lively as well as comfortable in some sense.
"I'll call you later, brambles." Arthur dismissed the beetle, as it would be quite troublesome to have it in outside.
Even if he told the guards he had tamed the beast, it would be unsettling for a lot of NPCs. So it was better to prevent the problem in the first place.
