It was a makeover treatment.
If Stacy had any ideas about the story of Cinderella then she would have thought of herself like the protagonist right now. She 'fit the shoe' and proved herself to be from the noble bloodline of the Vardokens and was then treated like how she was supposed to be treated all this while.
"It… it doesn't really make sense." Stacy stared at herself in the mirror, and saw a reflection that was her and not her at the same time.
The reason the Vampire bloodline of nobility was important was because of how pure and undiluted their power was, and while that was true to a certain extent… it didn't necessarily reflect for everyone.
Rowena, Genevieve and Catherine were all from the Carmilla House, each one a beautiful Vampire lady but she had a feeling that they wouldn't be able to hold up if say, Theodore attacked them.
"You look beautiful, Anastasia." Rowena looked from behind her, a hairbrush in her hand. There was a proud look on her face.
"Uh huh, you'd actually fit right in here with us." Genevieve added.
"If someone said she was a Carmilla, I'd believe it myself." Catherine clapped her hands together.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtStacy glanced over her shoulder and tried not to grimace. It wasn't entirely unpleasant to be given attention by other girls, since most wouldn't bat an eye at her when she worked at VitaBlood, but there was gushing right now and treating her like an enemy earlier.
"Shouldn't you be guys organizing the event? Why are all the three of you here?" Stacy pointed out.
"Pfft, we do have our people to work on it as we speak." Catherine waved a hand.
"And this is important work!" Genevieve motioned to Stacy.
"What my sisters wish to say is that introducing you to the upper Nyx society is a vital, if not the most vital event that will occur tonight." Rowena placed her hands behind her back and eyed her carefully. "How you are accepted here tonight will reflect whether or not we'll triumph over the Lux's accusations for your family name and their wish to tarnish it or rise above those."
"That… that makes some certain sense, but I'm not the only Vardoken here." Stacy said. "What about Alexei? Is nobody going to check on him?"
"Oh, we tried." Rowena said and glanced at her sisters with a narrowed stare. "Unfortunately, some of us were unable to hold ourselves back and were a little too touchy with that one."
"Besides, it's so much more fun to dress up a girl than a boy anyway!" Genevieve laughed with a sheepish look on her face.
"If the Vardokens need to repopulate their House, I'm a willing volunteer." Catherine told Stacy with a straight face.
"Uh… uh…" Stacy didn't know what to say in return to those words. She knew that her brother probably looked good, but didn't consciously think about it. And now somebody said 'repopulate' to her without a hint of shame.
However, instead of Catherine getting smacked for saying something lewd, the reaction of the other two sisters were stranger.
"Hey, no fair! You can't call dibs right away." Genevieve huffed at her sister.
"Besides, it makes no sense to make such promises when we've yet to know the outcome of this event." Rowena frowned but then cleared her throat. "Apologies for our statements, Anastasia. We're all looking forward for the success of this event, but the off chance that it doesn't… well, I don't want Catherine to get implicated with you two simply because she made a promise that she did not even think through."
"Of course, I… I understand." Stacy said. Well, she logically could understand why they'd think that way, but all this made her realize was that the Carmillas were still looking out for themselves.
Heloise Carmilla seemed happy to wholeheartedly support her and Alexei, but the same couldn't be said for her people.
What if she later had a change of heart?
That idea tore into Stacy's mind and she found herself standing up, trying not to step on her gown.
"Huh, Anastasia, we're not done with you yet." Rowena said.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"Yeah. Where are you going? Do you need to go to the bathroom?" Catherine raised a brow.
"No. I just wanted to talk with my brother and Theodore before all of this started."
"Tell me, is this Theodore guy actually available?" Genevieve pursed her lips. "Or is he actually belonging to you? I don't mind, but a girl still got to know where he lands in the availability market."
"Now, now." Rowena narrowed her eyes. "Not you too, Gene. Not every cute Vampire you see something you need to prospect."
"Well, some of us have different levels of value anyway." Catherine shrugged. "I'm sure the Overlord would allow at least one of us to marry whom we wish to marry."
"That is unlikely." Rowena frowned. "Each one of us can provide a potential benefit to the Carmilla House as long as we hold ourselves to the proper suitor and partner."
"Or if we mess up things too much, it becomes necessary to hide us in the shadows with a safe marriage that doesn't necessary prove troublesome." Genevieve gave her a crooked grin. "Then, being with a powerful husband doesn't become a necessity as compared to a safe one."
All of this talk with marriage and claiming power was starting to make Stacy sick. She hated hearing how calculated everything was that even trying to marry for love was something to be done by proving yourself as a liability that needed to be hidden by their family.
"Yeah, excuse me." Stacy made her way out of the room and searched for Alexei's.
She knew that she could have said something, but Stacy did not have any interest in changing their minds and they were probably unreceptive to it anyway.
The only person she had actually helped with relationships was Lukas… and the man had it more or less figured it out, she hoped. She really just wanted what was best for him.
Once Stacy entered Alexei's room, she heard his familiar voice.
"Cleaned up quite well, huh?"
