Chapter 149 Time to Use My Powers
Everyone looked at one another, unsure how to react.
Robert continued, “I can guarantee that Kiran is entirely capable of holding this position. Ever since the
establishment of the overseas holding group, there have been no major issues under his leadership.
“Hence, there should be no problem whatsoever in electing him as the president of Alvarez Corp.
“So now, if you agree and wish to elect him as your next president, please raise your hands.”
Robert raised his hand as soon as he finished speaking. Following his speech, a few others raised their
hands as well, but upon closer examination, it was only two or three in a crowd of many. A large
majority were still hesitating.
The camera was facing everyone, capturing the glaring light of the projector in the dim conference hall
and the variety of expressions sprinkled throughout the room.
“Why, are there some of you who still disagree? Do any of you have any opinions or objections. you
would like to voice? It’s okay. You can speak up. No one will fault you for it.”
The white-haired shareholder who spoke earlier said, “Shouldn’t we wait for President Alvarez? He is,
after all, one of the shareholders of this corporation too.”
Robert glanced at the shareholder. “The meeting has come to this point, and he hasn’t shown up yet.
Do you think he’ll still show at this point?
“Are you all refusing to take a stance unless he’s here?
“You are shareholders, for God’s sake, not someone else’s subordinates! Do you really need someone
else’s permission to express an opinion?”
With anger permeating his tone, Robert’s thunderous voice echoed through the conference
hall.
He was truly enraged. He had not expected so many of them to align themselves with Lewis, to the
extent of disregarding him as the board chairman!
It seemed that his decision to elect a new president this time was entirely correct.
Especially after the stunt Daphne pulled, Robert had no trust left in the two siblings whatsoever.
This statement of his stirred whispered conversations to break out in the room. Everyone else could tell
that Robert was starting to lose his temper.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“Are there any other objections?” Robert’s gaze was imposing, conveying the message that no one
was leaving the conference hall that day before they declared their stance.

Under his pressure, a few others raised their hands slowly.
It was now up to six against six. Only one other person’s vote was required to finalize this
matter.
So, Robert shifted his gaze to the person diagonally across him. It was a balding man, wealthy and
slightly overweight, but his expression was amicable, the hallmarks of a people pleaser. As soon as the
man caught Robert’s eye, he smiled awkwardly before raising his hands slowly. Kiran looked at the
shareholders in the room, his expression triumphant.
He’d never expected things to have gone so smoothly.
As the rest of the group, who had not raised their hands, watched him intently, their gazes serving as a
warning, but to everyone’s surprise, he stood unwaveringly on Robert’s side.
He, too, thought that Lewis was not coming that day.
And since Lewis would no longer be coming, why should he single himself out to be targeted? Why not
make things easier for himself and avoid making enemies as much as he could?
As soon as the man raised his hand, the conference hall door opened.
Everyone in the room turned in unison.
Standing at the entrance in a dark, formal suit was Lewis. His gaze was cold and indifferent as he
swept a glance over the conference hall. Everyone in the hall hardly dared to breathe in his
presence.
He strode forward, a small smile playing on his lips.
“I haven’t even arrived yet, and you all are already in such a hurry to vote. What? Are you electing the
new president already?”
Unhurriedly, he walked to his seat at the front of the room. Instead of sitting down, he simply kicked
away the chair and supported himself on the table with both hands, looking down at the attendees
superiorly.
His voice was light, but he exuded an overwhelming sense of oppression.
Robert frowned. “You are late to the shareholders’ meeting, of all events. Do you still think it’s
appropriate for you to take this seat?”
Lewis angled his head to look at him. “The meeting is scheduled for 9.30 am. It’s only 9.00 am now. Is
that considered late?”
“We’ve all arrived anyway. Do you really expect us to wait specifically for you?”
Lewis replied lightly, “So you started on your own accord. Continue then. Where are you now? The
vote, right? Does my vote as a shareholder count as well?”
Robert shot back bluntly. “Didn’t you resign? We are meeting to elect the new president now, but since
you’re here, you might as well share your last words to the company.”
His words indirectly gloated the outcome of the voting. “Either way, the vote is over. Even if you were to
vote, it would be seven against six.”
Lewis was silent for a while before he burst out laughing.
Everyone thought he was crazy to be able to laugh when things had reached this point.
Lewis raised his hand and beckoned to Conrad. Responding to his signal, Conrad brought over the
documents he had been holding onto.
Lewis tossed the documents onto the table. “Well, I suppose it’s time to use my powers.
“According to the guidelines, those who hold more than 34% of the shares in the company have the
power to veto decisions made by the company as they see fit. Unfortunately, I now hold 35% of the
company’s shares. I, therefore, declare your votes invalid.”
Upon hearing his words, a great number of people stood up to express their protests, the loudest
among them being Robert.
“You-how is that possible?” Robert flipped through the documents incredulously.
Originally, he held 50% of the shares in the company, but he was the one who distributed them himself.
Daphne and Lewis acquired nearly 30% of his shares in the company, while the remaining 20% was
divided, with 3% given to his wife, Mrs. Alvarez.
Even if he were to regain Lily’s shares, all of that combined would only amount to 27%.
That was the sole reason why he’d called this meeting instead of single-handedly electing the next
presidential candidate.
Robert blamed himself for acting without thinking about the consequences of his actions in the long
run. He thought that even if he handed out some of his shares, he would still be the largest shareholder

Robert needed an heir, and Lewis’ performance was exceptional. He’d only decided to hand out his
shares because he had been satisfied with Lewis’ leadership capabilities.
It was already too late when he realized the danger he’d inadvertently put himself in.
No matter how hard he tried, Robert could not fathom where the shares Lewis held came from.
Even if he took Daphne’s and his wife’s shares, it would only amount to 24%. Where did the 35 %
come from?
All of the shareholders were currently sitting in this room. There was no way he could get that
additional 10% unless-
“Could it be that you-
A sinister smirk tugged at the corners of Lewis’ lips. “Chairman, you can think about it when you go
back later. Right now, we need to solve the company’s problems.
“Since we’re already discussing elections, as the chairman mentioned, I did consider resigning.
However, I also believe that based on the chairman’s contributions and the number of shares he holds
in accordance with the company’s rules and regulations, he no longer qualifies to retain his position as
the chairman of the board.
“If you look at the guidelines I have highlighted, the chairman of the board should hold the largest
shares in the corporation, so I suppose who that refers to is pretty evident at this point.
“Lewis Alvarez, you have gone too far!” Robert slammed his fist onto the table, knocking over a bottle
of mineral water.
Lewis continued calmly, “Oh, I almost forgot. The company also stated that whoever attempts to
manipulate or influence the shareholders’ votes and interfere with voting decisions as well as company
operations, will have violated the rules. The consequences of the above would be to remove the
offenders from their positions and have their places on the board of directors withdrawn.
“For the sake of fairness, let’s vote.”
Lewis placed a hand on the table and raised his other arm. “Those who agree to remove Robert
Alvarez from his position and out of the board of directors, please raise your hands to indicate your
stance.”
Robert’s face twitched in anger. Those declarations of him violating regulations-it was nothing but a
bunch of bullshit!
Lewis was simply adamant about kicking his own father out of the board, and he would do anything to
make it happen!
