Chapter 175 Take Them Off
Josephine could only fit in a few pieces of clothing and couldn’t squeeze in her remaining wardrobe.
She was contemplating ways to take her outfits with her when someone suddenly kicked her suitcase,
and it slid a good distance away.
Josephine was surprised. She looked up to see Lewis glowering at her. The former pressed her lips
together and meekly rose to her feet, signing, “What are you doing?”
Lewis’ eyes were ablaze, his soulful eyes trying to bore holes in her. “What’s this? Can’t wait to leave,
huh?”
Josephine signed, “But you agreed to get the divorce, didn’t you?”
She simply thought she should take the initiative and not induce his hatred by sticking around anymore
since Lewis proposed to get a divorce.
Lewis smiled menacingly. “Then why are you bringing these along? Leave them be!”
Josephine shuddered. She looked at him in disbelief.
Lewis grabbed her chin and said moodily, “If you want to get the divorce, you should be prepared to
leave this house empty-handed. So, leave my belongings behind you when you leave.”
Josephine was silent.
Lewis continued, “Including the ones you’re wearing. Take them off.”
Josephine’s eyes widened as a thought crossed her mind. Was he going to strip her of the clothes she
was wearing too?
She noticed the fury in Lewis’ eyes, and her heart ached. They had been married for three whole years,
yet he was unwilling to let her have a single shirt. He wanted her to leave the house naked.
“What a cold-blooded man,” she thought to herself.
Overwhelmed with sorrow, Josephine felt a lump in her throat, and her eyes became misty.
She was worth less than a dog to him, even though they had been married for three years.
Lewis’ eyelids twitched. “Why are you crying? I thought you had everything thought out by how
eager you were to get a divorce.”
Josephine lowered her gaze, tears streaming out of the corner of her

Lewis released his grip on her chin and left the room. He was at the doorway when he repeated, “If you
want to go, leave those things behind.” Then, he was gone.
Josephine stood in the middle of the room, staring blankly at the empty doorway. She was at the end of
her ropes.
Lewis didn’t sleep a wink the whole night. He took a shower and left the house again, leaving
Josephine alone in the mansion.
Josephine sat limply on the bed, staring at the door in a trance.
Soon, she gathered herself, wiped her tears, and pulled out her phone to call a cab. However, she was
notified that the credit in her account was insufficient for the transaction.
She checked her account balance and realized she had tens of thousands of dollars left. Even so, she
couldn’t call a cab.
She checked her bank card balance too, and the amount was similar.
That meant Lewis had frozen all the funds under her name.
The realization hit her hard, and she couldn’t help but wonder if he was trying to imply that she was
nothing without him. Even something as simple as calling a cab now seemed like an unattainable wish.
Josephine heaved a long sigh. She lay on the bed, hugging the sheets as she fell silent.
Sleep-deprived, she fell asleep unknowingly on the bed.
It was afternoon when she woke up.
She got out of bed, and her gaze fell on her clothes and suitcase on the floor. She wasn’t sure why, but
she felt a sudden pang of disappointment.
She found a messenger bag in the wardrobe and dug out a notebook from under the bed. Then, she
immediately wrote down a sentence in the notebook. It read, “Write down the happenings of each day.”
Subsequently, she kept the notebook and pen in her bag. Slinging the bag across her body, she went
downstairs to the living room and rummaged in the drawers.
She found a dozen coins. With these coins, she took the bus and arrived at the hospital.
The doctor told her she needed continuous infusions, but she wasn’t sure how long she had to undergo
the therapy. She wrote this down in the notebook too.
When the infusion was being administered, Quintin sent her a message.
He told her one of the dogs had just given birth to a nest of husky pupples.
He attached a photo too. Josephine counted six puppies.
Quintin texted, “Where are you? Why didn’t you reply to my messages? Which puppy do you prefer? I’ll
give it to you as a gift.”
Josephine was writing down whatever happened today. She was at the part where Lewis asked her to
leave the house empty-handed and forbade her from bringing along the clothes she was wearing.
Her heart leaped. She put down her pen and replied to Quintin, “I’m at the hospital undergoing
infusion.”
Quintin replied, “Oh! What happened? Why do you have to get an infusion? Are you having a
cold?”
Josephine texted, “Yeah.”
Quintin asked, “Are you alone?”
Josephine answered, “Yeah,”
Quintin asked again, “Which hospital?”
Josephine told him the hospital’s location.
Quintin didn’t reply after that.
However, after half an hour, Quintin appeared at the entrance to the infusion room. He panted as he
ran toward Josephine and sat beside her.
“Just in time. Are you alright?”
Josephine shook her head.
Quintin asked again, “Where’s your brother? Why is he not here with you?”
The word “brother” grated on Josephine’s ears. After three years of marriage, she was still known to
most as Lewis’ sister, even prior to their divorce.
She cracked a smile, reluctant to continue on this topic.
Josephine signed, “Can you lend me some money?”
Quintin was stunned. He never thought Josephine would borrow money from him. He gaped for a while
before stuttering, “Are you serious? Why would you be short on money?”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmJosephine nodded in affirmative. She needed money to buy some clothes.
“How much do you want? My dad froze my cards, so I might not have much on me too. But I can still
come up with ten to twenty thousand dollars.”
Josephine pressed her lips tightly and looked at him in anticipation.
An hour later, they arrived at the mall.
“Didn’t your brother give you any money? Why do you have to borrow money to buy clothes?”
Josephine signed, “He froze my card too.”
Quintin looked at her pretty slender fingers and couldn’t help but laugh. “We share the same
predicament! Let’s go. The clothes here are affordable. Let me buy you some.”
Josephine nodded and followed him into the mall.
It was an ordinary mall with only a few branded retails. It would cost 2000 dollars at the most to buy a
set of winter wear.
Quintin led her into a shop that sold female wear. The clothing displayed was prim and proper, which
matched Josephine’s dressing style.
“Come, try this on.” Quintin passed her a blue sweater.
Josephine took it and went to the fitting room. After changing, Quintin nodded in
appreciation. “Not bad. It seems light-colored clothes look right on you. You look amazing.”
Josephine was embarrassed by his compliment.
Quintin handed her two other outfits. Josephine tried them on, and Quintin loved all of them. They
bought two pieces of garments, amounting to less than 5000 dollars.
“Do you want to check out the other stores?”
Josephine glanced at the shopping bags she was holding and shook her head. Two was enough. But
when they passed by a lingerie store, she halted. Josephine glanced at Quintin sheepishly.
Quintin looked at the variety of lingerie and blushed. “D-Do you want to get this too?”
Josephine nodded.
“Go on, then. I’ll wait outside for you.” As he spoke, he passed his card to Josephine, “Y-You can settle
the bills on your own. The password is 052000, my birthday.”
Josephine cast him a grateful glance and went in with the card.
Her anklet transmitted their conversation to a pair of headphones.
Leaning back into the sofa, Seth eavesdropped on their conversation with a playful smile.
