Chapter 196 What Happened Between Them?

Josephine wanted to escape, but Seth had put a hand on the wall on each side of her head, effectively

trapping her against the wall. His voice dripped with mockery as he sneered, ‘ Thinking of making a run

for it?”

She bit her lip and was pensive for a moment before she signed, “Aren’t you worried Daphne will

misunderstand?”

He had a meaningful look in his eyes as he stared at her hands. He scrutinized every inch of her with

undisguised aggression. His unsettling gaze made her feel extremely uncomfortable.

“Do you really not remember?” he asked again.

“Remember what?” she signed with furrowed brows.

He didn’t answer her and merely huffed in amusement as he rubbed his thumb over her chin. His tone

softened when he spoke, “Have you forgotten… what happened between us?”

Josephine’s eyes widened in shock. She glared at him and was about to shove him away, but he

grabbed hold of her hand and narrowed his eyes. “Why do you keep trying to run away? Do you think

what happened would disappear if you managed to escape?”

Her heart beat erratically as she heard this, and her hair stood on end when she saw the soft look in his

eyes. What had happened between them? Could that be the reason why Lewis divorced her? However,

she didn’t remember interacting much with Seth, so how could something have possibly happened

between them?

Seth looked into her frantic eyes and spoke again. “It seems like you truly don’t remember. Back at the

farm, you cooked for me and weren’t willing to leave with Lewis. I even thought you were hurt. You

don’t remember any of this?”

She had no recollection of anything he had mentioned, but fleeting glimpses of images flickered in her

mind as he spoke, seemingly aligning with his words. Dr. Halliday had explained that her illness wasn’t

the same as memory loss. Her memory loss would be gradual rather than permanent. She might be

able to recall something if someone brought it up. Hence, her shock intensified after hearing his words.

She couldn’t comprehend why something had transpired between Seth and herself, but based on his

words, it appeared that she had eloped with him. She shook her head resolutely as soon as the thought

came to her-she wouldn’t do such a thing. She knew herself better than anyone else. Regardless of

what had occurred with Lewis, she wouldn’t easily bestow her love upon another, especially not her

brother-in-law, Seth. She refused to believe she would ever commit such an act.

Seth couldn’t help laughing when he saw this. He wasn’t the slightest bit angry. “It looks like Lewis is

truly irreplaceable in your heart. If that’s the case, why did the two of you divorce?”

Josephine lowered her head and didn’t respond. She didn’t know. She didn’t know anything at

all … Pushing him away, she turned to run, but there was no way he would let her escape so easily. He

grabbed her wrist and forcefully pushed her down onto the couch nearby. Her head spun from the

sudden change in orientation.

He climbed on top of her and pinned her against the couch before she could recover. Grabbing her jaw,

he said, “It doesn’t matter if you’ve forgotten. I can help you remember it.”

Her pupils dilated in fear as she tried to comprehend his intentions. Without warning, he grabbed her

hair so hard, causing a sharp pain to shoot through her scalp. She was abruptly pulled off the couch by

her hair. Her forehead and knees hit the floor as she slid off the couch, intensifying the pain in her

head. He tugged on her hair again, yanking her head up. She braced her hands against the floor to

support herself as her head was forcefully yanked up to meet his gaze. Pain emanated from her wrist

as fresh blood seeped through the bandages. Her arms trembled uncontrollably from the excruciating

pain.

“Do you remember yet?” Seth squatted in front of her. He wore a smile on his face as he looked at her.

Josephine was short of breath, and her eyes were glistening as tears welled up in her eyes, but she

didn’t know if it was from the pain or because she was afraid. She glared at him for a few seconds

before her wrists gave out under her, and her body dropped to the floor, only to be yanked back up by

her hair. Her scalp felt as though it was about to be ripped off her head. Her expression was pained,

and she looked at him in confusion and aggrievance.

Seth cocked a brow at her tearful eyes and suddenly loosened his fingers on her hair. Caught off

guard, she fell toward the floor. She tried to catch her fall with her arms on reflex, but a sharp pain shot

through her wrist the moment her palms hit the floor, causing her vision to go black. She held her wrist

and curled up into a ball on the floor.

He couldn’t help sighing as he took in the sight of her frail and pitiful figure. She had really forgotten

everything, even the fact that she could speak. She had her back toward him as she lay there in a

feeble position; the only thing he could see was her trembling shoulders. He touched her shoulder,

causing her to visibly freeze and tremble even more.

He didn’t seem to notice it as he grabbed her shoulders, lifted her, and then carried her to the couch.

She curled up once again when she felt the couch against her skin. Ignoring her, he searched around

the house and easily found a first aid kit. He brought it over, squatted in front of her, and held his hand

towards her. “Give me your hand.”

Josephine glared at him with misty eyes and tried to curl up even tighter, like a puppy who thought it

would be safer if it made itself appear as small as possible with a helpless expression on its face.

“What? Do you want another beating?”

She tensed at his words and bit her lip. In the end, she gave in and slowly placed her injured

wrist in his palm. The bandages that Dr. Halliday had re-wrapped around her wrist were stained red

once again, and the strong stench of blood permeated the air when they were removed. Seth tossed

the bandages aside, took out a cotton swab, and began to dab away the blood. He then applied

something to help stem the blood flow before bandaging it.

His movements were gentle and could have been mistaken as those of someone caring for someone

they loved, if it weren’t for the fact that he had yanked her off the couch just moments ago. She was so

close to believing that something scandalous had really happened between them.

Her body was tense the entire time he was dressing her wound. Looking down at the man before her,

she noticed that his features were truly impeccable, and he appeared kind. People would surely think

he was a kind person at first glance. However, Josephine had a deep-rooted fear of him, and it wasn’t

because he had been violent toward her earlier. Her heart had been gripped by fear the moment he

appeared, as though it had been engraved into her bones and

branded into her soul.

He held her hand and gazed admiringly at it once he was done bandaging it. It was unclear whether he

was admiring her hand or his own work. Looking up at her, he chuckled before saying, “Don’t you need

someone to care for you with your condition?”

Josephine felt her heart sink at his words, and they gave her a bad feeling.

Sure enough, she then heard him say, “How about I come to visit you daily? I’m sure I’ll be able to help

you remember.”

The look in Seth’s eyes as he said this to her, made her feel as if he was implying he would visit her

every day to hurt her.
