Chapter 219 You Are Getting Bolder
“Madam…”
Josephine looked up at him, waiting for him to continue speaking.
Phineas hesitated and said, “It’s nothing. Get some rest, Madam. I’ll take these two puppies away for
now. I’ll bring them to you after you’ve recovered.”
As he spoke, he stood up to pick up the puppies, placing them back into the cage. The puppies started
howling after being locked back inside. They scoured around in the cage, wanting to escape from it.
However, they were mercilessly taken away by Phineas.
Josephine lowered her gaze to look at the gauze on her calf. She remained silent for a while before
reaching out to undo the bandage. She removed the gauze bit by bit, revealing the wound. She saw a
stitched injury with a raised swelling, and the center of the wound had a purplish hue with a ring of
pockmarked abrasions, presenting a shocking sight. Josephine’s pupils contracted when she saw the
injury. Josephine thought, “Why can’t I remember what happened even though I was so badly injured?”
She remembered the dream, and there was a sharp pain in her head. She held her face and took a few
deep breaths. She felt as if needles were pricking her brain, irritating her mind, hurting her more than
the pain she felt in her calf. She curled up in bed, panting. Beads of cold sweat broke out on her
forehead again.
Right after Phineas put the dogs down, he received a call from Lewis. Lewis did not waste time and got
straight to the point, asking, “Is she down from the mountains?”
Phineas was slightly taken aback and quickly explained, “Madam is still sleeping. I’ll send her back
when she wakes up.”
“Okay.” After replying, Lewis paused for a moment before continuing to say, “Are those dogs to her
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtliking?”
“Yes, she liked them very much.”
“I thought you mentioned she hasn’t woken up yet?”
Phineas’ heart missed a beat, and he turned pale. He said in a panic, “Sir, I… ”
“Send her down before dawn.”
“Yes…
Lewis hung up without any courtesy. Phineas wiped the sweat from his forehead and felt stupid. After
the call ended, Phineas went to the room to get Josephine. When he saw her asleep, he quietly slipped
back out.
Lewis had meetings throughout the day. He did not have time to go to the mountains. Afte
the call, he headed straight to the meeting room.
Josephine woke up around three in the afternoon. The painkillers were no longer effective, and she
woke up in pain. It was not as painful as yesterday, but she still felt the burning sensation. It was as if
something sharp was piercing her muscles, and it caused her legs to cramp a few
times.
Phineas took some painkillers and gave them to her. Then, he brought the puppies over and prepared
to send Josephine back. He said, “Madam, can you walk? I’ll send you home.”
Josephine looked extremely pale. She let out a sigh and nodded, indicating that she was fine. Phineas
did not believe her. He held the cage with one hand while supporting Josephine with the other, helping
her out of the mansion. Josephine limped. There was an immense pain in her calf with every step she
took. She gritted her teeth and did not make a sound, bearing the pain until she got into the car.
Phineas glanced at her injured legs. He could not help but let out a sigh. If he sent her home. now,
Lewis would notice the severity of her injuries. However, he had no choice but to send. her back. If
Lewis did not see her when he went home, he would come to look for her, and the consequences
would be even more severe. With this in mind, Phineas withdrew his gaze and drove away while
clenching his teeth.
Josephine sat in the car, looking at the surroundings. She vaguely remembered something when she
saw the tree canopy blocking out the sun in the distance. She remembered that Lewis brought her
through this road yesterday. She also remembered how Lewis heartlessly abandoned her in the fenced
area to be bitten by the dogs. She realized that it was not a dream but something that had happened.
Josephine grimaced, showing an expression filled with bitterness. She could always remember these
unpleasant memories. It was impossible to forget them completely, and it truly felt tormenting.
Phineas drove Josephine back to Styx Mansion but was shocked to see the seal outside the
mansion.
“What’s going on?” Phineas remained stunned for a long time. He even thought that he had gone to the
wrong place. He checked the doorplate and confirmed that this was indeed Styx Mansion. Phineas
asked Josephine, “Madam, when did the both of you move to a new place?”
Josephine was also taken aback. She gazed at the seal on the door with a mixture of confusion. and
bewilderment in her eyes. A chilling draft seemed to echo through her hollow chest, leaving her feeling
empty. Josephine shook her head to indicate that she had no idea. She knew nothing at all.
Phineas gave it a thought and called Lewis. Lewis only picked up after he called twice. Phineas asked,
“Sir, why is there a seal outside Styx Mansion? I sent Madam back, but we could not
enter now.”
Lewis was caught off guard for a moment. He raised his brow and asked, “You sent her to Styx
Mansion?”
“Yes. Should I not have sent her there?”
Lewis remained silent for a long time. The silence continued for so long that Phineas thought he had
hung up. He then heard Lewis ask, “You sent her there on your own accord, or did she request it?”
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmPhineas wanted to reply that he had made the decision, but from Lewis’s tone, he felt it wast not just a
simple question. He pondered briefly before saying, “Madam requested to come here.”
“Really?”
“Y-Yes….
Lewis snickered. “Phineas, you are getting bolder by the day.”
Phineas was shocked. “Sir, I’m sorry. I had no idea that you moved to a new house!”
Lewis said, “Remove the seal and go in.”
“Yes!” Phineas dared not say more. His feeble lies could easily be exposed in front of Lewis.
After the call ended, Phineas exited the car and tore the seal. He keyed in the old password, and the
door opened. His face lit up. He went to the car to retrieve the puppies. He also helped Josephine into
the mansion.
Josephine looked at the familiar mansion and fell into a trance. This place was different from the home
she remembered. The place was empty, as if it had been ransacked by thieves. The couch and
furniture were draped with white cloths. She remained completely unaware of the events that had
transpired in the lost recesses of her memory. Not only did she divorce Lewis, but even the mansion
was also in this state.
The white cloths strewn about the house seemed to symbolize the definitive end of her relationship with
Lewis. The abandoned furniture echoed the desolation within the walls, serving as a somber reminder
of what the house used to be. As sunlight filtered in, the dust. particles danced in the rays, almost
appearing to celebrate their owner’s return.
Josephine was stunned as she looked at the unfamiliar setting in the mansion. Phineas was also
dumbfounded. He could not comprehend why the place was in this state. It had only been half a month
since he last came here. Phineas quickly raced to remove the cloths and said, “I’ll help you clean this
place!”
Just then, they heard a honk from outside the mansion.
