Chapter 291 Stay in This Moment
Lewis paused and lifted his head to meet Josephine’s gaze.
Josephine’s face was flushed, and her eyes revealed a mixture of panic and pleading.
Lewis remained silent for a moment as he tidied her sweater.
He leaned close to Josephine’s face and kissed her lips again before saying hoarsely, “Shall we go
back?”
Josephine’s legs felt weak, and she could barely stand. She had to hold on to the wall for support. Her
sparkling eyes were flickering under the lights.
Lewis raised his finger and wiped the corner of her eye, his heavy breath landing on her face. It was
burning.
Josephine nodded. She no longer had the mood to continue strolling around.
This man could get turned on anywhere.
After a while inside the booth, Lewis led her out and found a store employee to print the photo booth
pictures they had taken.
As the store employee printed the photos, they glanced oddly at the picture of them kissing in the
background.
Seeing how they could kiss anytime and anywhere, the employee thought Josephine and Lewis must
be a newly-in-love couple. Most couples who dated for over a year wouldn’t do such things.
The store employee handed the photos to Lewis, who tucked them into his pocket. He then took
Josephine’s hand and walked out.
Perhaps the cool breeze outside had calmed them down a bit. Lewis wasn’t in a hurry to go back.
Instead, he took her for a walk by the seaside.
As they walked on the soft sandy beach, Josephine looked at the bustling crowd around her, her
expression distant.
The liveliness of a place didn’t depend on the number of people but on who you were with.
Josephine looked at Lewis. Although everything around them was unfamiliar, she didn’t feel
lonely.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtAfter walking a little further, they noticed a large crowd gathered in a certain area, seemingly
for some event.
Lewis pulled her over to take a look. It turned out that someone was setting off fireworks, and the
beach was filled with fireworks ready to be launched.
Josephine suddenly remembered that the New Year was just a few days away.
The New Year was approaching, which explained the festive atmosphere.
“Do you want to watch the fireworks?” Lewis asked her.
Josephine nodded eagerly, her eyes fixed on the fireworks. She could already imagine the beautiful
display they would create in the sky.
Lewis removed his jacket and draped it over her shoulders. He stood by her side as they waited. for the
fireworks to begin.
The sea breeze rustled through Josephine’s hair, causing it to occasionally brush against Lewis ‘neck
as they danced in the air.
She nestled in Lewis’ embrace. Catching a faint scent from him, Josephine could feel a profound sense
of comfort and warmth filling her heart.
Suddenly, a bang rang out. Startled, Josephine instinctively buried herself in Lewis’ embrace.
Lewis held her shoulder and patted her gently to comfort her.
Several streaks of light shot up into the sky and bloomed into colorful stars in the dark night,
illuminating a large portion of the sky.
Josephine stared blankly at the fireworks, her mind wandering. She hadn’t seen fireworks up close
before and only saw them on television.
As fireworks were prohibited in Elysium, she had never witnessed fireworks firsthand in all her years.
She was amazed by their beauty and magnificence, even more so than she had imagined.
Lewis lowered his head slightly and saw her sparkling eyes and the colorful glow reflecting on her face.
He spaced out briefly.
There were so many fireworks. It seemed like they would continue for at least half an hour. Soon, the
air was filled with smoke and the strong smell of sulfur.
However, the scent was not unpleasant; on the contrary, it carried a sense of a festive atmosphere.
It was the scent of the New Year.
Yet at that moment, Lewis’ phone rang.
He took his phone out to check it but eventually switched it to silent mode and put it back in his pocket.
Less than a minute later, the phone rang again. This time, Josephine heard it and turned her head to
look at his pants pocket.
Lewis frowned and took out his phone again. He was about to hang up, but the other party hung up
first.
Soon, notifications kept popping up on Lewis’ phone.
“Lewis, come and save me. I’m lost.”
“There’s someone following me from behind, and I’m terrified.”
“I’m at Hardington.”
“Location shared.”
Lewis frowned. When his phone rang again, he walked away from Josephine and answered it.
“Why did you come to Hardington?”
Sierra’s teary voice rang out on the other end of the phone. “I came to find you. You left me alone in
Elysium, and I felt so lonely.”
“Where are you now?”
“I don’t know. I’m not familiar with the roads here. I took a taxi from the airport to the hotel, but the
driver deviated from the navigation. I pretended to feel sick and got off to vomit. Then I ran away.”
“I have no idea where I am right now. It’s so dark, and I’m scared. I dare not take a taxi anymore…”
Somewhat annoyed, Lewis pinched the bridge of his nose. “Who asked you to come?”
“I came here on my own. Why are you so mean to me? Fine, I don’t need you to care about me. Let me
fend for myself. After all, you’re busy being lovey-dovey with that mute and have not time for an
outsider like me.”
Feeling angry and sad, she hung up while crying.
Lewis looked at the disconnected call and then glanced over at Josephine.
Josephine was still gazing at the fireworks in the night sky, her eyes filled with a smile. She was
completely captivated by the spectacle.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmLewis quickly walked over to her and patted her back. “Josephine, wait for me here for a while.
Josephine blinked and turned to look at him. She was asking him where he was going.
Lewis didn’t explain but gestured towards a nearby table. “If the fireworks are over, wait for me there.”
He glanced at his wristwatch. “It’s 10 pm now, and the night market closes at 12 am.”
Pursing her lips, Josephine observed his anxious expression and obediently nodded.
Lewis added a final instruction, “Don’t wander off.”
After ordering Josephine, he walked away without looking back and gradually disappeared into the
crowd.
The fireworks continued to bloom in the sky, but they no longer held the same brilliance and romance
as before in Josephine’s eyes.
Holding his windbreaker and the half-empty cup of bubble milk tea, she walked to the spot Lewis
instructed her and gazed blankly at the sky.
Surrounding noises gradually grew louder, and the bustling crowd became even more overwhelming to
Josephine’s senses.
Feeling afraid, Josephine hugged the coat tightly and hunched her shoulders.
After arriving at the roadside, Lewis drove the Porsche he had borrowed from Gerald and sped away.
Meanwhile, Sierra was weaving through a pitch-black alley. She had already taken off her high heels
and was holding them. She temporarily shrugged off the person chasing her.
She didn’t know if the driver or someone else was pursuing her, but she was terrified.
The ground was icy beneath her feet, and her stockings were torn, causing her feet to scrape against
the pavement. It made her wince in pain.
Sierra took out her phone and checked to realize there was no signal. Sierra began to grow panicky.
She couldn’t help but quicken her pace. She then turned into another alley after rounding a
corner.
To her surprise, she saw two people approaching her as soon as she turned.
“Well, you’ve brought yourself back,” one of them said and swiftly charged at Sierra.
Sierra was panic-stricken. She didn’t even care about her belongings anymore. She threw her shoes
and bag at the person before turning to run.
The man behind her was super fast. He caught up with Sierra in a few steps and grabbed her by
the hair.
“Damn bitch, you’re quite the runner, huh?”
