Chapter 300 That’s Enough

Josephine might be 11 years old mentally, but she still knew what it meant to have developed a sense

of crisis. One glance at Sierra told her that she was here to snatch Lewis away from her.

Josephine squeezed Lewis’ hand unwittingly. She had exerted so much force that she didn’t realize

that the wound on her palms started flaring in pain again.

When Sierra noticed how intimate those two were, white-hot fury and jealousy overwhelmed her

senses immediately.

Lewis used to take her on business trips in the past, so she had no idea why he insisted on bringing a

damned mute with him this time. They were supposed to be divorced, after all.

“What is it?” Lewis’ question put an end to Sierra’s train of thought. Even his voice was exceptionally

frosty.

The latter did her best to suppress her fury as she replied, “Do I need a reason to call you out?”

That reply was barely enough to relieve her anger, so she stepped forward, intending to tear Josephine

away from Lewis.

However, the young woman maintained a firm grip on Lewis’ hand. She even shot Sierra a nasty glare.

Sierra didn’t know that the mute had developed a shameless personality, forcing her to secretly pinch

the latter’s arm after she grabbed it.

Poor Josephine’s eyes reddened immediately upon feeling the pain flaring from the spot.

The reason why Sierra dared to pinch her without caring about the consequences was the fact that she

was a mute. It wasn’t as though Josephine could cry out in pain, after all.

However, the moment she did so, she felt her wrist getting gripped immediately.

Sierra was shocked, to say the least. She didn’t expect Lewis to catch her in the act. At that time, her

fingertips were still pinching Josephine’s flesh.

She raised her head to look at the man.

The stormy expression on his face was something that Sierra had never seen before in her entire life,

which caused her to panic and release her hold on Josephine.

“That’s enough, Sierra.” Lewis shot her a warning look.

Sierra felt extremely aggrieved at that moment. She glared at Josephine, feeling nothing but burning

hatred for her. Then, she turned to look at Lewis. “I’ve been here for two whole days, yet you never

bothered talking to me! Instead, you choose to dine with that… that mute while ignoring me! Have you

forgotten what you promised me back then?”

Lewis replied with a question of his own. “What did I promise you?”

Before Sierra could finish her sentence, she saw Lewis shooting another glare at her. Her mouth hung

open, but she forgot what she wanted to say all of a sudden.

“Sierra, my patience is very limited. I hope you can be more sensible in the future.”

Those words were undoubtedly hurtful to the woman. Her cheeks reddened immediately, making her

feel aggrieved and humiliated, especially since many onlookers were happily watching the drama

unfold.

She knew that she never had an official title in the past-to think things would remain the same for her

now.

Lewis turned to leave with Josephine, clearly not planning to dine in the restaurant anymore. The latter

followed him while constantly turning her head to look at Sierra.

That woman kept staring at her as well. Hatred burned in her eyes. Right now, Sierra wanted nothing

more than to rip Josephine into shreds.

Sierra had been waiting for Josephine and Lewis to get divorced for ages. However, she never

expected to see Lewis getting cozier with his ex-wife instead of proposing to her.

Before their divorce, Lewis still cared about Sierra, at the very least. He would always choose her over

Josephine, no matter what.

Right now, the jealous woman had already envisioned killing Josephine over and over again in her

fantasies. She wanted nothing more than to make that woman disappear from the face of the earth

permanently.

That thought started as a tiny blossom and has since begun growing rapidly. One could even see

murderous intent threatening to spill from her eyes.

Suddenly, Sierra heard a light chuckle coming from the side. She turned around to see Seth, who was

gazing at her mockingly.

She felt immensely uncomfortable despite the fact that he was wearing his signature smile.

“What are you looking at?!”

With a small smile on his face, Seth answered, “It’s only natural for me to watch live drama, isn’t it?”

“You-”

“Miss Woods, if you don’t have enough brain cells to devise a proper plan, I advise you not to step on

the tiger’s tail. Otherwise, you might end up losing more than you can afford to.”

Seth brushed past Sierra and left the restaurant after leaving his advice hanging in the air. The

latter was the only one staying rooted to the spot in a dumbfounded manner.

Seth’s advice served as a good reminder for her. Her intelligence was nothing in front of Lewis. If she

did end up harming Josephine-

That man would certainly notice it.

Sierra was very aware of that fact in the past, so she was careful not to tread the line and rarely caused

trouble for Josephine.

Even though there were times when she would make Josephine’s life difficult, she did so by pulling off

stunts that weren’t detrimental and harmful to the latter on a long-term basis.

That was why Lewis chose to ignore her actions. He wouldn’t allow anything to threaten Josephine’s

life, after all.

Sierra patted her cheeks immediately in hopes that she could calm down as soon as possible. For a

moment, she was about to do something extremely rash.

The woman put on her cap and sunglasses and walked out of the restaurant briskly while ignoring

everyone else.

Meanwhile, once Lewis and Josephine left the restaurant, he grabbed her hand and checked her

condition.

Fortunately, Sierra didn’t use that much force in pinching Josephine, so there was only a red spot on

her arm.

Lewis released her arm while saying, “Let’s go out and explore the city.”

Hardington offered a wide array of delicious specialty cuisines exclusive to the city. As a resort

destination, it was only natural for Hardington to boast a diverse range of culinary offerings from all

corners of the country.

However, thanks to Sierra’s actions, Josephine didn’t have any appetite for breakfast.

Lewis didn’t eat at all. After watching her take a few bites of her food and refusing to eat anymore, he

immediately took her to the hospital.

It was the hospital Seth had mentioned to them earlier.

There were a lot of people in the hospital. In fact, there were people everywhere. Many of them visited

the hospital because of its reputation.

One of the doctors there was very famous. Normally, one wouldn’t be able to secure an appointment

with him unless they were to book it one year ago. Thanks to Gerald’s

connections, Josephine could cut in line and see the doctor right away.

However, the results of the check-up performed there were almost identical to the check-up. results

given to her by the doctor in Elysium.

The doctor studied the film, clearly in deep thought. Finally, he turned around to look at

Lewis. “Based on the situation you told me and the results from her previous check-up, I think the

reason behind the patient’s rapid deterioration in memory is due to the emotional triggers which are

stressing her brain out.”

Lewis frowned immediately. “What else?”

The doctor continued, “Her illness is rather strange. It’s different from the other patients diagnosed with

Alzheimer’s disease. Her case doesn’t seem to be hereditary.”

Lewis didn’t say anything. Instead, he glanced at Josephine, who stood next to the window.

She happened to be leaning on the windowsill while gazing down. There was a park right outside the

building, and people could be seen strolling down the paths. The flowers in the park bloomed

beautifully, attracting countless butterflies in various colors.

The young woman was so engrossed in the sight that she started to space out.

Naturally, she didn’t care about the conversation taking place in the background.

The doctor was still speaking at that time. “If you want to stabilize her condition, the best way is to

avoid triggering her brain as much as possible. Otherwise, the defense mechanism of her brain will get

activated, causing her memory to deteriorate even faster. After all, it’s impossible for her to control her

thoughts right now, so she tends to wipe out all the bad memories in one go.”

“Is there really no cure for her condition?” Lewis asked.

The elderly doctor let out a heavy sigh. He reiterated, “Didn’t I tell you that her condition is different

from the other patients I normally tend to? I can’t promise if I can cure her or what she’ll be like during

her final stage. All I can confidently tell you is that her condition won’t worsen as long as you don’t set

off any emotional triggers.”

“What are the things considered to be ’emotional triggers’?”

The doctor thought for a moment before replying, “I’m not sure about that. After all, everyone’s triggers

are different.”

Lewis sank into deep thought after that. By the time he snapped out of his thoughts and looked in the

window’s direction, Josephine was nowhere to be seen.
