Chapter 23: 2
Two figures in a dark cave that seemed to have no opening where conversing quietly, they were standing close to two different cracks in the space one which shone with an ominous blue light, while the other had noises coming out of it, noises that portrayed scenes of human interaction.
One of the figures had his finger inserted in the crack which gave of noises.
The other silent figure who wore a cloak asked quietly apparently growing impatient of the time spent in the cave.
“Is the plan going smoothly”
“Of course in a few moments, we can see the light again and soon we will be out of this damn cage”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇt“What about him our last companion, do you have any idea where he is.”
“No, but I guess he is around somewhere, maybe he has a special prison nevertheless when we break the veil it should be of help to him too. When we go out don’t forget our deal.” The figure with his finger in the crack warned.
.....
“Hmm I won’t” snorting disdainfully his companion replied softly and kept quiet awaiting the opening of the veil.
In a steam-powered vehicle, Raiden and Otto were navigating through the streets heading towards the wall that stood magnificently on the border of the new republic (name of the city).
“Sir what exactly is going on in the wall that makes you anxious, forgive my scepticism but isn’t the wall just a relic of the old days when the new republic was just founded it has no value apart from it being a monument of history. I don’t see the reason or connection between it and the string of bizarre murders that have been occurring lately.” After a few minutes of quiet driving, Otto couldn’t help but ask.
Raiden who was in the co seat quietly took a breath of his cigarette calming his frantic nerves since he had seen that code he has had a bad feeling as if something monumentally important was about to happen.
Taking in another puff of smoke Raiden replied: “The wall is far more important then you imagine, the soldiers there posted aren’t just for fun....”
*rumble, crash*
A loud boom followed by an earthquake which caused different vehicles to go out of control creating a major accident disrupted Raiden’s voice.
When he and Otto got out of the now overturned steam carriages their first sight was attracted to the newly appearing crack in the air right above the smoking wall that was still some distance away.
“Fuck those bastards do they have any idea what they have done.” Raiden clenched his fist in anger and regret.
“What is that?” his lieutenant who was bleeding from the nose couldn’t help but ask in astonishment while pointing at the crack where an arm could be vaguely seen trying to further expand the crack.
Various other citizens were already screaming and crying frightened by the ominous and eerie scene that appeared before them.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm” that is the veil between realms.” An old creaky voice rang out from right behind them, turning back vigilantly Raiden and Otto found that it was May.
“Aunt May” Raiden shouted out trying to stop the elderly woman from talking any further, apparently wary of the other people around who could be eavesdropping on their conversation.
“its all right, people will figure it out sooner or later, the wall had been failing to hold up recently and we already guessed it’s a matter of time before its destruction, what we didn’t expect was that it would happen so early and that something was already trying to force its way over,” May said with a hint of seriousness in her tone.
“can’t the wall just be fixed?” Otto groaned out, although he couldn’t fully understand everything May was saying he quickly understood that the crux of the problem was the wall.
“No, it can’t,” Raiden said gloomily while staring at the crack that was already wide enough for people to pass through while raising his hand to the still inquisitive Otto signifying he did not want to continue this topic again.
Raiden closed his eyes and started catching his breath waiting for whatever was in the veil to come out.
Raiden noticed the red eyes of the figure hidden the crack and quickly confirmed that the red-eyed monsters were indeed related to the current predicament, seeing the blurry blood-red figure that stepped out of the crack, Raiden slowly moved his hands through the air using his palm and the air to create a little bit of friction which in turn he changed from producing heat to creating sparks of lighting, he directed the dangerous element slowly moving it around accumulating more of it before focusing it on his fingertips and firing towards the figure that had just stepped out of the veil.
Lightning was one of the harmful things that could cause damage to a creature from the spirit realm, although the spirit realm creatures were notoriously difficult to deal with, they were at their weakest when they had just crossed through realms.
Sure enough, the lightning hit the enemy head-on, the lightning being too fast to dodge, the figure became clearer after the smoke had dispersed revealing a one-armed child with red eyes and fangs on his lips suspended in the air looking at the direction of Raiden with hatred in his gaze.
No, the child couldn’t be described as one-armed because the muscles bones and veins of the other arm were already regenerating forming the appearance of the missing arm once again this took place in a few seconds.
Suddenly everyone noticed a cloaked figure appearing beside the child, the figure put its palm on the child’s shoulder and they both disappeared leaving an unsightly gash in the space serving as proof that all that happened today wasn’t an illusion.
