Gerhardt cleared his throat before helping her analyze rationally in his deep voice. “Kylie, I suggest you take
advantage of the current court recess and withdraw the lawsuit. The Harris family has already obtained conclusive
evidence that Charles is an illegitimate child. Once that information is made public, it’ll only be detrimental to you,
me, and the royal family. If the king finds out, he won’t approve of you putting Gwendolyn on trial.”
His words infuriated Kylie even more.
“Why should I? That b*tch Gwendolyn killed my son, so she should pay with her life. Do they think that threatening
me with these old issues will make me cave in? Dream on! I must seek justice for Charlie. So what if I expose the
royal scandal? Even if we all suffer, I will sue to the end!”
When Gerhardt realized he could not persuade her, his expression turned grim, and he stopped talking.
Jennifer had barely walked down the aisle after exiting the restroom when she was taken away by Craig’s men.
She was taken to the hotel next door and pushed into Craig’s room, causing her to stumble a few steps before she
regained her balance.
Craig was sitting leisurely by the window, smoking a cigar.
The lingering smoke in the air failed to conceal the fury in his eyes.
“So, you agreed to return to the Newton residence so quickly to aid Gwendolyn in finding evidence.”
His chilly tone, accompanied by the mixture of tobacco scent in the room and the menacing aura emanating from
him, was almost suffocating.
Jennifer took in a deep breath. While resisting his stifling aura, she steeled herself and nodded. “That’s right.”
Shatter!
A loud crash echoed across the room.
No sooner had she replied did the coffee cup next to Craig’s hand flew toward her and shattered beside her feet.
Jennifer took two steps back to escape getting injured by the porcelain shards.
Craig glared at her. “What benefits did the Harris family give you to make you work for them to the point where you
didn’t hesitate to plot against your own family? You’re truly an unfaithful ingrate!”
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtJennifer was deeply affected by his last sentence. She met his oppressive gaze resolutely and responded, “I am
unfaithful, and I’m also aware that no one in the Newton family welcomes me. Although you guys are my family,
you guys treat me more coldly than a stranger. Gwendolyn, on the other hand, is genuinely nice to me even though
she isn’t my biological sister. I would’ve died numerous times if it hadn’t been for her! I can’t just stand by and do
nothing while you join forces with Her Highness to put her on trial!”
Craig scoffed, “No matter how good she is to you, it’s only because you’re useful to her. Is there anything closer
than kinship in this world? She killed Charles with her own hands! Even if he’s an illegitimate child, he’s still partly a
member of the Newton family and can’t be stepped all over by the Harris family to their contentment. Besides,
once the Harris family reveals his identity, do you understand how much Newton Group will suffer as a result?”
“I’m sorry, Mr. Craig. I only acknowledge Gwendolyn.” Jennifer gave him a bow, her eyes red. “I don’t have any
affection for you, Charles, or the Newton family. You can cancel the banquet to celebrate my return if it bothers
you. Just pretend you never found your long-lost sister, Mr. Craig.”
Craig stubbed out his cigarette. His eyebrow was slightly arched, making it hard to decipher his emotions.
Before leaving, Jennifer said to him, “You probably don’t understand Gwendolyn’s significance to me, Mr. Craig. I’d
rather not become the daughter of the Newton family than do anything to harm her!”
Nico hurriedly drove the recovered Cedrick to the countryside.
In a modest house, a man had just woken up.
There was a thick bandage wrapped around his chest that was stained with blood. His lips and face were devoid of
color.
He lifted his blue eyes with great difficulty, his lashes quivering slightly.
He tilted his head and immediately spotted Cedrick sitting on a chair beside the bed.
“You?”
Cedrick played with the watch on his wrist. He did not meet the other man’s eyes, and his tone was indifferent as he
started, “Even Gwendolyn doesn’t know about this. She was so nervous that day that her hands shook when she
fired the shot. The bullet missed your heart by two centimeters and didn’t hit your arteries.”
“W-Why…” Charles asked weakly, feeling puzzled.
Even if Gwendolyn had failed to kill me with a single shot, I’d have still died from blood loss. Cedrick only needed to
do nothing for me to die. Or did he save my life so he could torture me again?
“Why did I save you?” Cedrick knew what the other man wanted to ask and chuckled lightly. “For the past six
months, I’d been plagued by illness because of you and nearly died several times, but I’d also inflicted the same
pain on you. You almost didn’t make it several times under heavy torture. Since you handed over the Super Antiviral
and I’ve fully recovered, the grudges between us are written off.”
Written off?
Charles was stunned.
I can’t believe he said the same thing as Gwendolyn did back then! We are both ruthless and love rivals who detest
one another and enemies. Why would he let me off so easily?
Charles sat up and leaned back against the headboard. “I’m sure you know that I handed over the antidote
because of Gwendolyn. I had no intention of saving you. In fact, I wish for nothing more than for you to die!”
“I know that.” Cedrick’s gaze was calm. “You wanted to fulfill her wish in this matter, whereas she shot at you not
only to grant your wish to die but also to help me as she was afraid that I would find it difficult to do so. I’ll now
grant your wish and let you off.”
Charles stared at him in shock.
“You should understand me, Cedrick. If our roles were reversed and you were in my hands now, I wouldn’t let you
off so easily!”
“Unfortunately, there are no ifs, and you don’t have the chance to make me a prisoner. It’s entirely up to me
whether to forgive or continue to resent you.”
Cedrick eyed Charles with a half-smile that carried an innate arrogance and aloofness. xo.com fast update

Aside from the ruthlessness of an influential person, his piercing gaze also reflected righteousness and unwavering
love for Gwendolyn.
Charles smiled, finally letting go of his feelings.
“I admit defeat. I finally know why she chose you. In some aspect, I am indeed inferior to you.”
Cedrick’s lips curved slightly at his response. He patted the other man on the shoulder and said seriously, “Let’s set
aside the trivial matters and get down to business. Your mother brought Gwenny before the international court and
requested that she be tried because she thinks you’re dead.”
Charles’ expression also turned solemn. “Mother will never stop until she achieves her goal. If this goes on, both
parties will suffer.”
Cedrick nodded. “So this is something only you can solve.”
Their eyes met once more but without the animosity of previous times.
They used to be love rivals because of Gwendolyn, but this time, they made peace and frantically discussed a
solution because of her.
The court recess was over, and since Kylie did not withdraw the lawsuit, everyone returned to court.
Her lawyer held onto the matter of Gwendolyn shooting and killing Charles and would not let it go.
“Your Honor, we believe that the defendant shot Mr. Vidar Lund when he was defenseless, which is considered a
sneak attack and intentional murder! The plaintiff has done her best as the victim’s adoptive mother, but the
defendant slandered her for failing to do so and displayed no remorse, which is absolutely abhorrent. Your Honor,
we urge you to impose a heavier sentence on the defendant!”
Silence ensued among the lawyers at the defendant’s table, as Gwendolyn’s statement before the court recess had
utterly derailed all of their previously prepared strategies.
“Gwendolyn Shalders Harris, no matter how subtly you change your statement, it’s a fact that you shot and killed
Vidar, and you have no way to refute it! Do you admit it?” Kylie glared at Gwendolyn, gritting her teeth with hatred.
