Chapter 504 Come Clean
Cedrick was skimming through every witness’ recent statements in his office at the Federal Bureau of Investigation.
Jasper knocked at the door and entered the room. He stood at the empty spot in front of Cedrick’s desk.
“Mr. Jenson.”
Cedrick didn’t even lift his head. His gaze was still focused on the statement report in his hands. “Yes?” he
questioned.
With his hands clasped behind his back, Jasper advised, “You’ve kept Mr. Craig in the interrogation room for two
days, Mr. Jenson. He’s still the deputy director, after all. With his mother’s recent accident-”
“Quit spouting nonsense.” Cedrick shot Jasper an impatient glance and warned, “If you don’t explain why you’re
here in five sentences, be prepared for a super-intensive training session at my office for the entire evening.”
Jasper’s body stiffened at the threat.
He recalled the torture he’d been through the last time Cedrick made him stay back at his office. Knowing he still
needed to carry Craig back to the Newton residence on his back, he knew he couldn’t risk at training session at that
point.
I can’t take another minute of that kind of torture.
He opened his palm, ready to count the number of sentences. Just as he opened his mouth, Cedrick coldly
reminded. “You’ve already wasted four sentences earlier, so this is your final chance.”
Jasper was shocked.
When did I say four sentences? I remember it was three sentences and a pause. Wait. Did he count the pause as
one
sentence?
Aware of Cedrick’s tenacity, he didn’t dare to refute and get straight to his point. “With the passing within Mr.
Craig’s family, he’ll need to be released to handle the funeral proceedings if you can’t prove his involvement in the
case within three days according to the rules and regulations since he is a civil servant.”
He expressed the entire paragraph in one breath, not daring to pause for even a second.
When he finished, he finally got to exhale a deep breath.
Cedrick coolly lifted his gaze to Jasper and smirked. “He had only been detained for two days, and we didn’t even
rough him up for a confession. Yet he’s already losing his patience.”
Jasper refuted, “But Mr. Jenson, Mr. Craig-”

“Get out. Tell Craig if there’s no progress in the case before we get off work today, I’ll let him walk out of the room
to handle his mother’s funeral proceedings.”
“All right. Thank you for your consideration, Mr. Jenson.”
Jasper bowed respectfully, turned around, and walked out of Cedrick’s office.
The minute he stepped out of the room, Nico came in.
Cedrick resumed reviewing the statement report. He caught Nico’s entrance from the corner of his eye but didn’t
tear his gaze from the paper.
Nico stopped in front of Cedrick’s desk and stretched his arm out with something in hand.
Only then did Cedrick set down the report and glanced up.
It was an intact transparent glass tube,
He reached for the tube and studied it in detail before meeting Nico’s gaze.
With a silly smile as though fishing for praise, Nico said, “Cedrick, I managed to get the information out of Lucas.”
Cedrick stared intently at him. “That was quick. What did you tell him?”
The corner of Nico’s lips curled into a mysterious smile. “Make him empathize with emotions and knock some sense
into him with proper reasoning. I checked everything he did as of late and found he had bad blood with Craig,
despite being biological brothers. A couple of instigations from me, and he spilled the
beans.
Cedrick usually didn’t joke or laugh during work, but a rare, gratified smile played on his lips at that
moment.
“You did good. Tell me the details.”
“Sure thing, Cedrick.”
Nico’s delight intensified at the praise he received.
Clearing his throat, he narrated, “Lucas claimed he noticed Karl had led every household staff, including. the
bodyguards, to bury something in the backyard. This was the day after the welcome party. Feeling dubious, he…”
Cedrick listened carefully as he fiddled with his watch.
When Nico finished, Cedrick smiled coldly. “Since someone is losing his patience in the interrogation room, let’s
settle all these dreadful matters by today. I’m afraid he’ll have to wait until his next life if he’s hoping to be released
without charge.”
Straightening the collar of his uniform, he got up from his chair and headed out the door with a keen
gaze.
“Let’s give Karl a visit.”
It was Karl’s first time being brought into an interrogation room with a cuff around his wrists.
Cedrick said he would be interrogating Karl himself, but the former didn’t show up for the entire afternoon after
throwing Karl into the interrogation room.
Within the dark room, only a dim light shone down from overhead. The walls were painted pitch black. The entire
room was dead silent as he was the only occupant.
Due to the dim glow, the pressure Karl was feeling was tremendous.
He sweated bullets as he waited in the room. His mental state began to weaken under the immense
pressure.
He had no idea when his torture would come to an end.
Suddenly, the metal door to the room swung open.
Cedrick casually walked in, took a seat at the table, and stared at Karl from a close distance.
Karl asked in trepidation, “Why did you detain me, Mr. Jenson? I don’t know anything.”
Cedrick looked at him with amusement. “Everyone who came in here said the same thing. They claimed to know
nothing, yet would choose to confess in the end when they broke under pressure. I’ll let you choose. Do you want to
come clean or go through the formal process?”
Karl’s body stiffened at the subtle threat. His legs began to shake like a leaf.
He tried his best to keep calm.
Mr. Craig says Cedrick is a cunning fellow. The latter will employ all kinds of psychological tactics once he has a
suspicion in mind. I can’t trust even a single word out of his mouth.
“Ask anything you want, Mr. Jenson. I’ll answer you truthfully and won’t hide anything from you.”
“Perfect! You promised to speak the truth. The law won’t be so kind to you if you change your statement later.”
His tone sounded casual, but his deep voice was twined with threat.
Karl swallowed the lump in his throat and nodded.
Nico sat beside Cedrick with a laptop in front of him. His fingers tapped on the keyboard nimbly as he recorded
Karl’s statement.
Cedrick dived right into it. “We’ve already tested the glass pieces found in the backyard. They’re brand new since
no dust was found on them. The day after the welcome party, were the housekeepers of the Newton residence
instructed to do something?”
Karl was taken aback. Sweat began sliding down his face.
“Why do you ask that, Mr. Jenson?”
Cedrick caressed his watch and questioned, “You’re not the only one who knows the truth in the Newton residence.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmIn the room next door, someone already confessed. Are you still planning to hide the truth?”
Karl curled his fists into balls. “Who is it? Which b’stard dares to spew bellsh*t after the Newton family employed
them? How dare that son of a b*tch accuse Mr. Craig!”
Cedrick raised his brow impassively. “Did I even mention Craig?”
Karl fell silent.
Cedrick chuckled. “You’re right. He’s the one calling the shots in the Newton family. I’m sure the Newton residence
staff had received his order to conduct a clean-up on such a large scale.”
Karl lowered his head. “You must be joking, Mr. Jenson. Mr. Craig has always been amicable. He usually busied
himself with work matters and wouldn’t ask about household affairs. Naturally, he won’t concern
himself over the menial matter such as cleaning the villa.”
Cedrick didn’t refute and instead continued elaborating according to Karl’s reasoning. “That’s right, so he left the
authority of those tasks to you and dragged you into this mess.”
Karl was baffled “What?”
“I know you’ve aided Craig plenty of times, so you’ll be convicted with the same charges he’ll get if you don’t come
clean. He has a lot of charges at the moment. Are you sure you don’t want to consider coming clean and striving
for a lighter sentence?”
“I-I truly don’t know anything. Please investigate thoroughly. I really have nothing to do with it.”
Cedrick was done wasting his breath with him, so he took out an intact glass tube with only a drop of transparent
liquid at the bottom.
When Karl recognized the tube, his eyes widened with horror.
Cedrick caught the dread on his face and took out another glass tube filled with transparent liquid. It was the tube
Charles snuck out.
“Our professional laboratory staff had made the comparison and concluded the liquid from the tube Charles stole
from the attic and the one being destroyed in the Newton residence backyard were the one and the same.”
Karl’s heart sank. At the same time, he began breaking out in a cold sweat.
Nico added, “Karl, Mr. Jenson personally interrogated you to give you a chance. We already know the truth. You’ll be
charged as an accomplice if you stay quiet and spend the rest of your life in prison once we
go to court.”
I will be sentenced to life imprisonment? But I just ordered the staff around.
Panic filled Karl at the thought of a life sentence. “I’ll say it! I’ll tell you everything! I have no choice but to obey my
employer since I’m hired as the butler. I have absolutely nothing to do with this!”
