Chapter 552 You Should Feel Guilty Instead
It was Jennifer’s first time seeing Treyton in such a crestfallen state since she regained consciousness.
Recalling that she was indeed at fault in the matter, she gentled her tone. “Never mind, I’ll forgive you this once. I
was wrong to secretly leave without informing you today, making you worry. I apologize.”
Following her apology. Treyton forced a smile. “What a good girl, Jennifer. You can’t do it again next time. Take two
bodyguards with you and text me, okay?”
Jennifer said nothing.
If I were to take two bodyguards with me, they’d dog my every step, and there’d always been two pairs of eyes
watching me. Such a feeling is awful, making me uneasy all over.
Nonetheless, she relented upon glimpsing the man’s eyes that dimmed once more. “I’ll definitely text you and
inform you about where I’m going. But as for the bodyguards… can that depend on the situation? In an instance
like today whereby I went gaming with Gwendolyn, I’d be perturbed to have two people watching at the side.”
In other words, she conceded to one of the requests and declined the other.
That would necessitate them both compromising.
To Treyton, he was already satisfied that she agreed to text him. “Okay, whatever you say, Jennifer.”
When they had reached a consensus, Jennifer remained standing at the side. She felt somewhat unsettled by his
intent stare.
Remembering the matter they had yet to do that night, she cautiously asked, “Are you still going to test me tonight,
Mr. Treyton?”
Treyton held her gaze. Clocking the discomfiture and trepidation in her eyes, he countered. “Do you want me to do
so, Jennifer?”
Jennifer wavered for a moment before ultimately choosing to speak her mind. “I hadn’t been in the mood the entire
day, so I wasn’t concentrating much when I studied. Little stuck to my mind. If you were to test me, I’d undoubtedly
flop.”
All of a sudden, Treyton recalled Gwendolyn saying that Jennifer’s academic foundation was weak and urging him to
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtbe more patient.
Thus, he understandingly pulled her over to him.
“Then, I won’t test you tonight. Consider it as your day off, Jennifer.”
Hearing that, Jennifer breathed a sigh of relief, feeling like a heavy weight had been lifted off her. She beamed at
him. “Thank you, Mr. Treyton. I’ll try my best to memorize everything tomorrow.”
Treyton turned the matter over in his mind briefly. “How about this? Starting tomorrow, I won’t test you right upon
returning home from work at night. I’ll tutor you for half an hour before doing so. What do you think?”
“You already have your plate full in the morning, Mr. Treyton. Would it be too tiring for you to tutor me in my
graduate studies when you come home at night?”
Treyton held her hands tightly. “If you feel bad that I’m too tiring myself out, don’t resist sleeping on the same bed
with me at night. Let me hug you and have a restful sleep every night. Is that okay?”
Uh…
From Jennifer’s perspective, it had only been a little over a month since she regained consciousness. That was to
say that she had only been acquainted with the man for the same amount of time.
Hence, he was considered a friend she did not know that well.
Never mind that I’m living under the same roof with him despite only having known him for a handful of days, but
he even wants to hug me to sleep every night now. The mere thought of it is strange and gives me goosebumps!
Although Treyton was incredibly handsome, and she was irrefutably tempted in the face of a perfect specimen of a
man right before her, she could not get over the fact that they were practically strangers.
At her prolonged silence, Treyton knew that she was opposed to the idea inwardly. Smiling bitterly, he coaxed,
“Sorry, that was overly presumptuous of me. I asked for too much, too fast. Never mind if you don’t want it. Forget
I ever said that.”
Jennifer swiftly went along with it. “Thank you, Mr. Treyton. I’m truly grateful. I’ll definitely repay your kindness to
me when I’m financially independent.”
That startled Treyton.
Does she mean repaying me with money? How could I possibly be strapped for cash when I hold half of the
entertainment industry in the palm of my hand and am a son of the Harris family, the wealthiest family in the city?
“Forget about repaying me with money, Jennifer. I much prefer…” You repaying me with your body.
He did not finish his utterance, merely fantasizing about it fleetingly for fear of scaring her.
“All right, it’s late now. Shall we wash up and sleep?”
It was the middle of the night, but sounds of a fight drifted out of the basement in Harrick Villa ceaselessly.
Cedrick and Gwendolyn had dueled for no less than fifty or sixty rounds.
More than an hour passed, and they were both close to being drained of all energy before Gwendolyn finally
crashed out in exhaustion.
With sweat coating his entire body, Cedrick lay flat on the ground, his chest heaving violently.
Shifting his gaze to Gwendolyn, who lay sleeping beside him with her hand in his, he griped in vexation, “This
amount of physical exercise is even more draining than the workout throughout the night previously. Sure enough,
my wife tortures me in all aspects.”
After resting for a few minutes, he scooped her up and left the basement, going to the bathroom to
You Should Feel Guilty Instead shower.
Then, he repeated the same routine he had been following the past few days,
That was already the best solution at present, and he was elated deep within.
For the following two days, the couple went with the same pattern.
It had about become their way of life.
As they knew that Gwendolyn might have manic episodes at night and moving into the basement could resolve that
issue perfectly, they went to Valentino’s villa together and brought Benedict and Zendaya back to Harrick Villa.
Other than Gwendolyn’s manic episodes at night, their life was seemingly back on track.
In the afternoon, Gwendolyn went to Harris Group to work as usual.
Mere moments after she had taken a seat in the CEO’s office, she heard a commotion outside the door.
Ignoring it, she turned on her computer and prepared to devote herself to work.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmAlas, the person outside the door seemed determined to give her no opportunity to avoid a meeting.
“You can’t go in, Ms. Annie! Hey!”
Just when Gwendolyn placed her hand on the mouse, her office door was forcibly pushed open by Annie.
At the sight of the latter looking enraged, she derided with a sneer, “You’re a graduate of a national key university
and Antea Group’s business director, Ms. Annie. Yet, such are your manners? Don’t you know that barging into
someone else’s office is rude?”
In high heels, Annie defiantly marched over to the chair across the desk and sat down.
“Ms. Harris, you’re obviously in the office and happen to be free, but you had your assistant turn me away
repeatedly, refusing to meet me. Was it guilt that prompted it?”
Upon hearing that, Gwendolyn burst into laughter. Propping a hand under her chin, she lazily looked Annie in the
eye. “Why should I feel guilty? You’re merely a business director, while I’m the CEO of Harris Group. My duties are
severalfold that of yours every day. I was naturally busy to have turned down meeting you. Moreover, it’s someone
else who should feel guilty instead.”
When she uttered that final utterance, she stared straight at Annie meaningfully.
However, Annie appeared ignorant to the underlying mockery.
“It goes without saying that you’re the one who should feel guilty, Ms. Harris. Some time ago, you sent people to
intercept my projects time and again. Do you think that’s appropriate, Ms. Harris?”
The corners of Gwendolyn’s eyes crinkled with a smile, rendering her beyond affable. “What’s inappropriate about
that? Is this your first forage in the business world, Ms. Annie? Competition is nothing unusual when it comes to
securing collaborations. How could you accomplish anything if you’re so quick to snap?”
For a moment, Annie was left without a retort.
Gwendolyn continued, “Besides, you also wanted to snatch my collaboration with Dovil Group back then, Ms. Annie.
But then, you didn’t manage it while I succeeded. And now, you’re resentful?”
Annie pinned her eyes on Gwendolyn gravely. “At the very least, I asked you about it to your face, Ms. Harris.
Conversely, you played dirty and intercepted my collaborations a few hours before I signed the contracts.
The smile on Gwendolyn’s face grew all the wider. “Just swooping on your collaborations is considered playing dirty?
Then, what’s orchestrating a car accident, arranging for forty assassins from the black market to gang up on me,
and secretly plotting against me?”
