The moment that Father Joseph uttered the word, the circle of words that had formed in front of him lit up.
It had a golden brilliance that seemed divine, because in a way, it was. This was the power of the gods of Gaia, a power that no player was actually able to hold and use.
And in all of this, the Evil Mage was immobile. The short opponent just stood there, staring at Father Joseph like he had nothing to do.
There was no response, no spell that would retaliate, nothing. It was as if the person controlling this character suddenly decided to give up.
The golden light that came from the circle reached the Evil Mage, and when it touched the cloak, the pitch black cloak caught on fire. It started disintegrating like flash paper when caught on fire.
It revealed what was within the cloak itself. The four foot beast was shown in its full glory, and Jake was quite surprised.
This was a species of a goblin. A goblin shaman that was corrupted, no doubt. It's short frame made sense now, but that was all that made Jake think that it was goblin.
It's physical characteristics were too different. It had grey skin, not a shade of green. And it's eyes were just like that of the goblins of the raids, but even more enraged. This was a beast of hate and anger, a beast that wasn't supposed to exist.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtIt's skin was wrinkled to the point where it could be a hundred years old and Jake wouldn't have any trouble believing it.
And for a goblin shaman to become so powerful, reaching the fifth tier, was a wonder.
The golden light did not stop there. It continued to stretch forward, and basked about the corrupted goblin shaman.
Slowly, the grey skin of the Evil Mage started changing. It started turning into a heathy tint of sap green, the color of forest goblins. The same type of goblins that Jake made a deal with a few days ago.
"Ah! What a pity. It has been far too long since this creature has been corrupted. It is too late to save it from it's terrible fate." Father Joseph sighed, shaking his head.
Jake looked at him with respect. It was rare that a priest tried to change a corrupt individual and wash away all that evil energy. That would take too much holy energy, a precious resource that each priest had limited of.
Jake looked back at the goblin shaman, who fell on the ground. His staff landed on the ground, the gem on top shattering into pieces and a dark mist that seemed to be entrapped inside releasing into the world.
The mist started spreading, even the golden light of the chant that Father Joseph muttered not doing anything to it.
This dark mist slowly moved like it had a mind of its own. As it slowly moved toward the forest where Jake and the ones behind him certainly could not give any chase, Jake heard a voice.
"I will come for you, you impudent bastards!"
The voice was as sinister as it could get. Just hearing the voice, Jake's blood froze. He heard a voice like this before.
And the circumstances of that voice gave Jake shivers. It was a mission that required all of the guild to assemble outside the Evil Lands.
That day, the Shadow King guild assembled outside the Evil Lands and were about to enter when this voice stopped them.
This voice stopped all of them in their tracks, and when the voice materialized into a face, all of them turned tail and ran. That was for sure.
Jake turned to look at Father Joseph, whose face was anything but the rosiness that he wanted to imbue into the goblin shaman.
He rushed to support the high priest, who seemed like he was about to fall down to the ground. As Father Joseph's weight was transferred to Jake, Father Joseph smiled.
"Your face says it all. You have many questions about what just transpired." The high priest said, his words having a wise flair to them.
"That Evil Mage. It was immobile the whole time, like something was stopping it. It didn't move, didn't retaliate, nothing." Jake asked. It just haunted him. He didn't understand what just happened.
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏm"Ah! That! That was not something that I can take responsibility. That Evil Mage was not an evil mage of his own volition. The poor goblin was forced. And the goblins are worshippers of the god of Nature, a god that the Church of Light has good relations with." Father Joseph said.
"The goblin still had a hint of his will stuck there. That was what came out when I basked him with holy light. The internal struggle is what froze the evil mage. It was too bad that the will of the goblin wasn't strong enough to get him through to the other side. I couldn't purify him." The high priest sighed, shaking his head.
"It wasn't your fault, Father. If it weren't for you, many lives could have been lost today. You have saved us all." Jake shook his head.
"The reason that I came here was so that I could do my duty and help the gods one last time. Even a young boy like you with almost no strength tried his best and managed to kill your share. If I don't do what I was brought here to do, then what use am I?" Father Joseph shook his head and smiled.
His face then turned serious.
"I know that you heard that voice, a voice that only both of us have heard. I hope that you can keep this voice a secret. I do not want the others to panic." Father Joseph said, touching the one subject that Jake wanted to avoid.
"So he also heard it?" Jake thought to himself.
"As you wish, Father." Jake nodded.
