Before Viktor and the others could reach the shore, the wave of undead from the port city of Kandalaksha suddenly began to cross the river.
It was such a bizarre sight that Viktor almost stopped to check if his eyes were deceiving him. After all, the frozen river was at least 20 meters wide and 5 meters deep, causing the hundreds of undead trying to cross to drown in the cold river.
"Run! We must hurry!" Jessie shouted to the others when she saw this.
At first, it was quite a funny and amusing sight as he watched the horde of undead throw themselves into the river, but Viktor quickly remembered how far the port city riverside was.
They were still 4 miles away from the shore.
While they ran, Viktor witnessed how the hundreds of undead on the other side kept throwing themselves into the river in an attempt to reach them, filling up the river with corpses.
The amusing sight became horrifying when just as they were only halfway through the riverside, several red undead had managed to cross the river by stepping on the corpses piled from the bottom of the river.
"This is madness!! They're actually able to cross!? There are thousands of them in that city!" Viktor shouted. Imagining all the undead on the other side crossing, chills crept up his spine.
"The population here is almost 40,000. Not to mention, among all the northern cities, this place was untouched by other survivors. So not only thousands, you'll see at least 30,000 of them!" Roman said, correcting him while calmly swinging his spear against the incoming undead.
Splat! Splat!!
The group quickly slashed and killed the several stage 2 undead that jumped at them. But before they could even catch a breath, two more undead jumped at them.
Splat!!
This time, it was Viktor who took care of them, killing both of them with one slash.
Knowing that they would clash with the horde if they continued following this path, Roman quickly used the radio and ordered the sailors in the icebreaker to move further along the gulf.
Follow on NovᴇlEnglish.nᴇtWith it, Viktor and the others started moving east instead of south. However, just when they were about to get away from the city, the Djinn, who had been silent for a while now, spoke.
<Thousands of undead are waiting two miles in front of you.>
'Waiting?'
Viktor frowned when he heard this. He found the Djinn's choice of words rather strange, but an absurd idea as to why came to his mind.
'No way... a trap!?'
Viktor could not believe himself. These were undead they were talking about... how could these creatures have the intelligence to lay out a trap?
However, no matter how implausible it seemed, he had a strong feeling that it was indeed the case.
Half still in disbelief and half unwilling to explain how he can sense them, Viktor was debating whether he should warn the group now or not.
However, at this moment, his thoughts were interrupted by a voice in front of him.
"Dammit!" Roman loudly cursed. "It's a trap!"
Roman's face paled a little as he said those words. At the same time, Viktor began to seriously believe that it really was a trap.
"What? What do you mean it's a trap? How could a bunch of undead trap us!" Viktor asked. Despite having found out before Roman, he still asked to probe for an answer.
He really wanted to know.
Seeing the hundreds of undead beginning to enter their sight with most of the ones at the forefront being the fast-moving red undead, the others decided to ignore him.
At moments like this, Jessie's cheerfulness was replaced by seriousness. Even so, she was still as energetic as ever and did not hesitate to make a decision.
"Follow me! Hurry! We are going up the hill!"
At first, they planned to meet up with the ship further along the shore, but now that they were trapped by the undead, they had to go directly to the shore through the tall hill that separated them from the gulf.
Fortunately, they were no ordinary humans; tracking a tall hill was not a big deal for them.
Once they finally reached the top, everything finally became clear to see. With his enhanced sense, Viktor looked back down and saw that they were all surrounded by at least a few thousand undead. With a better view from the top, he noticed that many of the undead below were red ones.
Looking further in front of him, Viktor saw their icebreaker ship sailing in the middle of the gulf. However, he could not feel any relief as something shocking stood between the icebreaker and the group.
About a wall of hundreds of stage 3 undead blocked their way, patiently waiting for them to come down, creating an unbelievable and terrifying sight for him.
It was nothing short of a crazy situation. Viktor was racking his brain trying to find the logic behind this bizarre situation when his eyes fell on a particular figure.
Among these hundreds of large black-skinned undead, a different one stood in the middle. This creature had a slightly more human-like form, but it was still clear that it was the same kind as the other undead as it looked more like a miniature size of the black ones with its claws and fangs.
The most prominent difference it had compared to the black undead was that its body was liquid-like white. Moreover, even though Viktor was looking at it from afar, he could sense powerful strength from it.

Seeing the number, Viktor let out a small sigh of relief. Even though the white monster looked somewhat dangerous and exuded a powerful aura, it was only about as strong as a gargoyle.
Although his sigh was barely audible, Jessie, who was next to him, still heard it.
"Yes, we are fortunate that there's only the white one," Jessie said with an agreeing nod. However, her gaze at the white undead was complicated.
"An even stronger one exists!?" Viktor asked, his surprise evident in his tone.
"Of course. A stage 5 undead, the golden one. As much as I'd love to brief you all I know about it, this is not the time for an explanation."
Follow on Novᴇl-Onlinᴇ.cᴏmFrom her gaze and the way she spoke, it seemed that Jessie and the others had fought this type of undead before. In her opinion, the longer they stayed on this hill, the closer they would be to their doom, and Viktor agreed with her.
She believed that at this point, the best thing they could do was directly pierce through the lines of undead and quickly jump into the ship to escape.
The others immediately showed hesitation when they heard Jessie's words about it.
"We don't have enough strength to break through that line!" Roman anxiously voiced his thought.
But to their surprise, Jessie decisively told them to go straight through the white one instead of the lower-stage black undead.
"Trust me! This is the only way for us to survive this!" Jessie said, trying her best to convince the others.
Viktor was smart enough to understand that the white one was the intelligent one, the one acting as the leader of the rest. Yet despite knowing that, he still could not find the logic behind it.
The two, Bugs and Wade, tried hard to be more courageous, but they certainly did not like the idea of directly diving into a sea of undead.
Jessie once again showed her talent, and with a few words of encouragement, the expression on the two's faces became more committed than ever.
With all of them agreeing to her idea, forming a plan became much easier.
The girl once again smiled. "Keep it close and we will make it. We definitely will!"
Her voice was filled with confidence, causing the three to be filled with confidence and motivation as well.
Jessie quickly ran first, and without delay, the others followed right behind her. This left Viktor with little choice, especially with the thousands of undead already climbing the hill halfway behind them.
"Damn it!" Viktor gritted his teeth and cursed under his breath. "This plan better work!"
The two, Bugs and Wade, swiftly took out their energy rifles and prepared themselves to shoot. Next to them, Roman raised his spear and swung it, ready to fight.
As for Jessie, her body once again turned into a spark of lightning as she led the group. Viktor, who was a little behind, swiftly took out his ax and caught up.
All five of them ran down the hill toward the ship, their weapons high up in the air as they charged toward the white undead.
At the same time, the white undead roared, and in that instant, the black undead surrounding it began to close in on the white undead to protect their leader.
